We stayed in the Hotel Bristol between the 20th-24th Jan. My overall opinion of the hotel was that it was very good. The staff were all very friendly at the front desk and in the restaurant where we had breakfast each morning.
The hotel had a lovely (quiet) spa area that had a number of different rooms including 3 saunas, a steam room and a dark relaxation area. There was also an outdoor sauna which we were able to book, which was a lovely, private option (you have to walk through the snow to get to it).
We were given a complimentary upgrade upon arrival which gave us the opportunity to see the sun come up over the Matterhorn each morning. The room was very clean, spacious and the towels and bedding was changed daily.
Breakfast consisted of the usual European options such as cold meats, various types of eggs and cereals.
The hotel itself was very nicely located, just a two minute walk over a bridge (past the church) and into the main town area.
There is a ski rental shop next door to the hotel which gives provides a 20% discount on all ski equipment hire to people staying at the hotel.
Just over the road is a bus stop in which you can get a 4 minute ride to either the Klein Matterhorn or the Gornergrat station, so you don't need to worry about lugging ski's around.

Good value also.

Would recommend and would stay again.

After much research of hotels in Zermatt and even exchanging a few email with the incredibly friendly staff, I finally landed on Hotel Bristol; thankfully I was not disappointed. I reserved a Deluxe Double with a Matterhorn view and upon arrival we were upgraded to a Junior Suite with a Matterhorn view. I have never felt so welcome at any hotel; the staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating - I wish I remembered the names of the ladies that assisted me; they were all incredible with everything to restaurant reservations lift ticket and determining mountain conditions for the optimal ski experience. The rooms were spotless and the view of the Matterhorn was incomparable. Breakfast was well done - Don't miss it! The convenience of the ski shop downstairs was so darn convenient for ski rental and storage and the spa was pretty great, too. If you're on the fence about which hotel to choose in Zermatt, rest assured that this is the right choice. To the entire staff at Hotel Bristol; thank you for making our stay at Christmastime so memorable - You are all amazing!

Excellent hotel, make sure you book a room with a view of the Matterhorn because the view is unbelievable, you can catch the red light reflecting on the Matterhorn from the the sunrise from the comforts of your bed. The breakfast was excellent with a large selection of items to choose from.
We had another trip planned in May in their Apartment Pollux, but due to the Coronavirus situation we had to cancel our trip. But Hotel Bristol fully refunded our non-refundable reservation after they contacted us first. This will be the only hotel I will be staying at whenever we are in Zermatt.

We had a fantastic week at this Hotel. They collected us and returned us to Zermatt Station in their courtesy vehicle. On arrival we were informed that we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite (No.304). This was an excellent spacious suite with full balcony and one of the best direct views of the Matterhorn and ideal for viewing the sunrise over this mountain. Wifi worked very well.
A very comfortable bed and you have a choice of duvets.
Breakfast every day was extremely good, both quality and choice.
All the staff very welcoming and efficient.
The room has a Pod Coffee Machine, and it would be nice if the Hotel allowed two complimentary pods per day.
The Hotel has a Spa,Sauna,Steam Room plus relaxation from 1600-2100 but we did not have time to use this.
The location of the Hotel is one of the best and just a few minutes walk to any of the three Cable Car Stations.
This was our first visit to Zermatt and we were very fortunate in have ideal weather. We had booked directly with the Hotel and had received some excellent advice from KAROLINA who was there to meet us on arrival. KAROLINA has extensive knowledge of all the locations and walks etc and was a great help to us.
We would certainly highly recommend this Hotel and would always come back and stay here on a visit to Zermatt.

We stayed at the wonderful Hotel Bristol from Friday 11th December to Tuesday 15th December. Despite coronavirus we felt very safe and happy and the hotel was spotless. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The quality of the food was excellent from the continental self service breakfast to the dinner in the lovely restaurant which made the whole dining experience feel very special. The bar area was a lovely space to relax and enjoy some very pleasant wines. Our room was very spacious with a generous balcony to enjoy the town views. Frankie was always present to welcome and chat with his guests. We will definitely return to the Hotel Bristol and would like to thank Frankie and his staff for a lovely stay.

Very attentive & helpful staff.. Bright airy & very comfortable bedroom with large balcony & pleasant bathroom. Breakfast is served buffet style & has a wide range of options. The location by the Kirchbrucke is central but quiet, close to the bus stops serving the lift stations & a short walk from the high st/main shopping area. Highly recommended

We were at Hotel Bristol for our second time, after our holidays in October.
We had again a wonderful stay and also in winter everything was perfect. The skibus stop is right in front of the hotel and you can reach both the start of the Matterhorn Express and the Sunnega train in 3 minutes.
We opted for the 3course menu for dinner and, once again, the food was delicious.
Great quality/price ratio and warm welcome. Highly recommended in all seasons.
Hope to be back...

Family Trip

Areas deserving special mention:
Location: This hotel located near the lookout place for Matterhorn and a nice 10 minutes walking to train station and Gornergrat rail station. It is also close to the Kirchbrücke bridge / river which is ideal for visitors to take photographs (even for sunrise early in the morning).
Transportation: hotel does have free shuttle to and from train station. We didn't see the shuttle at the train station and walked to the hotel for check-in. it was difficult for us to estimate our arrival in the first place. Yet, the hotel did provide the free shuttle to the train station at check out. This was a surprise and worth special credit.
Room: A nice room with a balcony. A pity that the room is not Matterhorn view (it is stated on the hotel website FAQ that "Our normal family rooms are direction Mischabel Mountains".) The room is filled with the lavender smell which enables visitors to feel relaxing. Clean and tidy. Bathroom is narrow.
The entertainment system is helpful for visitors to know the weather conditions up on the mountain before they start their journey.
Breakfast buffet: ok variety.

Rooms for improvement:
No Matterhorn view room normally if you require a family room.

Interesting:
May be unique that you have to prepare your own waffles, pancakes and eggs for breakfast buffet, which may pose slight inconvenience to those who don't usually cook.

Conclusion
Value for money and good location. Would give 5-star if family room has the Matterhorn view.

We had two rooms here with a Matterhorn view and could not have been happier. The hotel is so close to all the shops and restaurants in Zermatt but is off the beaten path enough that it was a perfect location. And the breakfast that was included in our rate was well worth it--great wide selection of foods! I would definitely stay here again!

Hello, You can take the train from Basel to Zermatt. By the airport are buses just in front of the exit that will take you to the Basel SBB train station. From there you have connections to Zermatt with probably changes in Bern or Visp. If you check online ond: sbb.ch you will be able to see the timetable and prices. Kind regards, Sandra Heimberg, Reception

What comes in a double room? I am interested in a room with a view of the Mattehorn Mountain
Answer from Phil M
London, United Kingdom86 contributions107 helpful votes
This is not a luxury hotel but rooms are spacious, pristine, and suitably equipped (Wi-Fi, TV, telephone etc). A double room gets you a large double bed, a desk and chair, a small table and settee, a separate en suite bathroom and lots of storage space. The big news though (if you request it) is a large balcony with stunning Matterhorn views, table and chairs, so you can sit with a glass of wine and soak up the unique vista.
