Seldom did I experience a four star property that makes the guest feel they are at a higher category place, and this without the "luxury accoutrements" that some travelers seem to need.
The hotel is tastefully designed, rooms and bathrooms are large enough and functional, and from our balcony we could even catch a glimpse of the Matterhorn.
Breakfast is the usual well stocked Swiss buffet, well presented. The staff is friendly and competent, obviously quite well trained.
Zermatt is not a value for money destination, even for Swiss visitors. But this hotel surely is.

This is what a small hotel should be. Very comfortable, beautifully finished, updated room. Fabulous (small) spa. Possibly the best breakfast I've ever had in a hotel (or anywhere actually) included. The hotel is located close enough to the main part of Zermatt that it is a very short walk but just far enough away that it is quiet. The staff was also excellent and really contributed to the great experience especially Julika Groten who was so helpful and made our stay that much better. The only slightly negative experience was dinner one night at Hotel Alpenhof, a sister hotel, where we found the quality of food and service to be lacking. It wasn't horrible, it just wasn't as good as our experience at the Daniela.

The way everything was locally sourced was impressive, and
we loved the use of wool and wood, and the attractive sheep motifs. The breakfast was outstanding (Prosecco a nice touch), and the home-made bread particularly tasty. We appreciated the croissants and pastries made available for afternoon snacks, and the daily-stocked minibar in the room. The spa was innovative, with hay “cots” for relaxing, comfortable soft furniture and drinks on hand, as well as the jacuzzi. The staff were friendly, helpful and switched seamlessly between speaking French, German, English and Italian. The room was comfortably fitted out in Swiss-chalet style, with a balcony that had a great view of the Matterhorn.

The interior is rather old-fashioned and dark, the stairs of the Duplex rooms are rather risky downhill, the bedding not comfortable and old, the breakfast correct but the service too loud, dogs are accepted everywhere, even in the dining room, not very hygienic especially in a pandemic context. Non german speaking guests seem to disturb. We had lunch at the restaurant of the main hotel, the reception was deplorable, the quality ordinary, the price of the meal excessive. In short there are much better alternatives in Zermatt, we would classify this hotel more in the two star category and we will not be going back, ever.

Good day! We are very surprised about your review! Since we very rarely receive such a bad feedback. But of course you can not please all guests. Since we have gone through all your reviews also on other facilities, we noticed that you generally rate very critically. Unfortunately, to rate our hotel as rather old-fashioned does not correspond to what we are. Our hotel was renovated two and a half years ago. We are modern and typically Swiss furnished. But maybe the rustic, mountain idyllic, typical Swiss style does not appeal to you - but you have to consider such a thing before booking your room. Nowadays there are websites with photos, 3D tours and much more. Furthermore, it is an imposition to imply that non-German speaking guests are disturbing us. We would like to politely point out that we are an international resort. All guests are welcome here. From big to small, from Switzerland and from abroad. Thank you for your attention! Hotel Daniela Team

Our time at Hotel Daniela started out well, with the hotel allowing us to check-in early and providing a shuttle from the train station to help with luggage. From there it went a bit downhill. The room was okay and on the smaller side. The spa closed at 8, which is early considering most people spend full days out for activities. The hotel staff was not very friendly but were responsive to issues/questions. The room was very hot and the temperature was seemingly controlled by the front desk. When we asked for a cooler temp they told us they were "changing it but to just open the windows." Our windows opened to a balcony that had mosquitos, bees, and other insects that we didn't want joining our stay. The room was small but clean.

If you ever planning to see Matterhorn, go for a traditional place to stay. Julen's family has been in business for many years and offer various access packages to their hotel portfolio. A humble, yet authentic atmosphere, took us back to the days when there was no touristic business in place as nowadays. Spa beds laid down by Hay that sheep nearby feed themselves, cottage-like Spa interior and modern at the same time electric cars without horn, instead of making the yodelling sound made up a truly mountain fairy tale. Simply felt happy, connected to nature and like dreams came true. We shall return in winter too!

Our family of 5 stayed at Hotel Daniela for a week over the holidays on our ski trip to Zermatt. We enjoyed everything about the hotel. The lobby is charming, nicely decorated (especially for Christmas and New Year’s). The staff is warm, professional and helpful from the driver who picked us up at the station to the front desk to the breakfast and housekeeping team. We appreciated that the hotel was close to everything so we could walk to the main streer and lifts but also a few blocks off the main part so it was quiet. We had adjoining rooms with a small, private hallway in between which made it easy with lots of ski clothing to have space. The rooms were quiet. While the property does not have its own pool (has other spa/sauna amenities) we had access to the pool at the sister property which is just a block away. In my opinion Hotel Daniela is a nice mix of charm, hospitality and comfort without any of the pretentiousness of some of the fancier hotels in town. It struck a nice balance. Would definitely stay here again.

We don’t have enough good things to say about our 7-night stay in Zermatt at Hotel Daniela. Our room was lovely, roomy by European standards, incredibly comfortable bedding, with all the things you might want or need. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. There are so many options that there is something for everyone. The wellness center is relatively small compared to its sister hotels, but it is absolutely wonderful and has been recently renovated. It’s the perfect way to end a great ski day. However, the friendly, warm, helpful staff are what made our stay so memorable. Lots of great suggestions to make the best of our time in Zermatt. If you like boutique hotels where you truly feel like a welcomed guest, this hotel is for you. You can’t beat its location either. It’s centrally located to the high street and walkable to the three options to access the Matterhorn ski area. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!

A hotel with a different attitude. Welcoming and more open than most. The buffet breakfast is creative. You squeeze your own orange juice and there are some healthier items you don't see in other hotels. Plus the bread items stayed available after breakfast hours if you felt like a snack. We got a room with a view of the Matterhorn from our balcony. Would stay here again any time.

This gem of a hotel is about 10 minutes from the station and the main street if you walk. They send an electric van to pick you up and drop off at the station. The front desk staffs were very friendly and helpful. In fact all the staffs in the hotel treat you like a family member, rather than a guest! Everyone seemed to be smiling happily all the time! It's a small and cozy hotel. The rooms were rather small but clean quite comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. They even offer you a carry bag if you are going to the mountains. We had a lovely time, indeed! We would like to come back for a repeat visit, certainly! A special thanks to Ms Julika.

Dear NPhua Thank you for the kind request, the shuttle to the train station runs on request, it is free of charge for you and we even can arrange the pick up when you call us from the station. Regarding the accessible rooms, we do have an elevator, so you are able to reach every room in a wheel chair, but we do not have wheel chair bathrooms. Best regards from sunny Zermatt Simon

May I know what time does breakfast start?
Answer from Familie-Julen
Zermatt, Switzerland16 contributions
Dear EeSwen, the breakfast buffet is served from 7.30 until 10.30. Should you wish to have breakfast in your room, a little supplement of CHF 10.00 will be charged and it suffices to call us at the reception with your preferences for tea or coffee and the like. We are looking forward to hearing from you again! Best regards, The Daniela Team

Not necessary. Just call the hotel when you arrive at the train station and they can be there in a matter of minutes.
