The Hotel Monte Rosa garners acclaim for its blend of historical elegance and modern comforts, including jacuzzi baths and Nespresso machines in its spacious rooms. Nestled in a central location favored for shopping and skiing, the hotel, however, is not immune to nighttime noise. The luxurious spa and meticulous cleanliness receive high marks, as does the attentive service that defines guests' experiences. While most aspects are celebrated, some visitors have encountered maintenance and billing issues, slightly marring an otherwise exceptional value proposition.

Collected by the hotel’s electric-powered taxi “float” from the train station (there are no cars in the centre of Zermatt) and was taken a short ride to the hotel’s door. Pleasant welcome by the hotel staff. Spacious room on the 4th floor directly overlooking the main square, church and mountains. Attractive decor and ultra modern bathroom - all spotlessly clean. Complimentary afternoon tea offered between 4:30-5:30pm. Wide choice of options served at breakfast. The hotel is situated on the main shopping street of Zermatt, ideally placed for restaurants, bars and shops. It was my husband’s birthday while we were there which the hotel recognised with a card and a cake! Super friendly staff, would highly recommend!

This stay was our 3rd at the Monte Rosa in 2 years. We travel with our 2 children (8 & 9 years old). It's a charming boutique property with excellent staff and perfect location in the center of Zermatt. The hotel doesn't have a pool/spa but guests are permitted to use the beautiful pool and spa facilities at the 5 star Mont Cervin which is a 2 minute walk. Afternoon tea is complimentary and breakfast buffet is included in the room price. Edward's Bar in the lobby is convivial and has nice food.

The hotel service was excellent and surpassed my experience with big hotels like Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons.

Upon arrival, we wanted to change our room for a better view, and the manager immediately showed us two different rooms to choose from. Finally we decided to keep our room, as even though it was on the lower floor, it was spacious, with a large bathroom, and beautifully decorated. The free fruit basket, snacks, chocolates, sparkling and still water were also very thoughtful. The room already had a Nexpresso machine. But when we asked for tea, they immediately sent a water boiler, tea set and choices of interesting tea bags, without charging for them.

The spa was excellent too, especially the hot outdoor jacuzzi with beautiful view. There were so many jacuzzi spots in the pool so no guests have to wait for their turn.

When we checked out, we wanted to try catching an earlier train in 15 minutes' time. We rushed outside the hotel to grab a sandwich next door, and the hotel car was already waiting for us already in 5 minutes with all our luggage on board. We were rushed to the train station in 5 minutes and in time for the train we wanted. Their service just amazed us and we will definitely stay there again in coming visits.

Monte Rosa is a hotel with a very good location, at the time we were there a renovation was planned because the hotel is located in one of the oldest buildings in Zermatt. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. However, the cleanliness of the rooms should be improved. The rooms are furnished with traditional wooden furniture, you will find toiletries in the bathroom. Guests staying at this hotel can use the wellness center at the nearby Mont Cervin Palace, which is a bit impractical in the winter.

Should have been a fantastic stay, but broken amenities, unaccommodating staff, loud rooms and poor breakfast prevailed. One of the primary reasons we chose to stay at Monte Rosa was so that we could enjoy the included spa amenities at the sister hotel, Mont Cervin Palace, after skiing each day. Well, the heater was broken for the pool and jacuzzis for 3 out of 4 of our days in Zermatt. We repeatedly expressed our great disappointment to the hotel staff, and were merely met with a “sorry”. I decided to give the spa a try anyway, and instead of charging for 1 massage, they charged for 2 at checkout. This was rectified before paying, but I at the very least expected the 1 massage I did have offered complimentary as an apology since the advertised spa amenities were broken for the majority of our stay. Again when I suggested this, the staff shrugged and didn’t care. Apart from this big issue, the hotel is fine and in a good location. Of high concern though is the very loud location - we were on the 3rd floor and loud partying could be heard until 3am every night. Then, the loud clock tower would chime and wake us up at 7am. Breakfast was very subpar and we skipped 2 of our 4 mornings because it was so poor. I recommend the hotel do more when issues, that are entirely within their control, arise during guests stays. A simple acknowledgment and offer of a free drink, bottle of wine, massage, or reduction in room rate would have done wonders, since we factored in the jacuzzi as a big advantage when choosing to stay here. Instead, we are left with very sour taste in our mouths and will not be returning.

Dear Tripadvisor member we always appriciate hearing feedback and thank you for the time you took to write us this comment. We are sorry to read that not all aspects of your stay have been perfect with us. While your stay we had a technical issue in our spa at our sister property. Unfortunately, we had to wait 2 days for a replacement part to get the system up and running again. We are very sorry if this was not sufficiently communicated and affected your stay. We aim to provide all our guests with the highest quality of service experience and genuinely hope to welcome you again back to the Monte Rosa Hotel in the foreseeable future. I can not say enough good things about our stay for a ski trip. We stayed in a Junior suite for 7 nights and were amazed by the hospitality. The hotel is historic and you feel transported to a time period many years ago. The most amazing part of the hotel is the people hands down. From the front desk to housekeeping, everyone was so kind, helpful, and cheerful all the time. The room was so cozy and all the personal touches made you feel like royalty. The breakfast was amazing as was afternoon tea. The location is in the heart of town and an easy walk or ride to ski areas.

I have stayed at the Monte Rosa several times and it is my favorite place to stay for winter visits. The location is perfect for exploring all the town has to offer and easy access to all three ski areas. They have a skiroom for all your gear to be stored in lockers throughout your visit. If you choose to rent gear it will be droppedoff and collected from the shop. The bar is cozy with great food and the upstairs sitting room is steeped in history. The hotel is part of a network of restaurants and hotels in town giving easy access to amenities beyond just the hotel. The rooms are well maintained, but retain their historic charm.

We had the best stays in Switzerland thanks to Hotel Monte Rosa. Service was excellent the minute we arrived, room was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and dust-free. We really love the cherry stones provided every evening to warm our bed, a tradition kept back in the olden days and still being practise till this day (keep up the good work!) Breakfast was good, love the croissants!!! The location is very strategic and close to the train station. We look forward to staying in this hotel again when we visit Zermatt next time! :)

Having had to change our plans at the last minute we found ourselves at this very charming and historic hotel by chance. I had heard of the Monte Rosa Zermatt but it did not seem quite what I was after for this trip.

Having arrived there into the very centre of Zermatt we were immediately captivated by its location, views, history and intimate charm that the beautiful five star sister hotel (less than 100 m away and fully accessible to guests of this hotel) could not quite provide despite its opulence and impeccable qualities.

We stayed in the Whymper Suite which I would struggle to fault, I can honestly say that there is not a better place to stay in Zermatt, it’s delivered on every level!

With the exception of the rather peculiar two beds pushed together for a couple arrangement that I can never fathom in some European countries… (Perhaps couples are less romantic… I’m not sure)…this was as close to perfection as I could ask.

When I return to Zermatt it could not be to any other hotel… Luis, concierge off some 35 years and the whole team were as accommodating and friendly as you could ask despite us being there at the very busiest time of year.

If you are looking for something a little understated but with wonderful substance then you should give this place a try!

While retaining the character of a former area, it had all the modern conveniences. The staff were all very helpful with checking us in, giving a short tour of the building, and making dinner reservations for us. We didn't know about their "taxi" when we arrived but it wasn't a very long walk from the train station. Although this hotel does not have a spa or pool, guests have access to those at its sister hotel just a block away.

We stayed in a suite with two connecting rooms which was quite spacious people. I don't know if they have a single room for four people but they are very friendly so I would just contact them. We bought our passes at the lift but I believe you can buy in town and there is a discount for two days. Also we rented skis and got a discount at the ski shop because of the Monte Rosa. Zermatt had lots of shops and is a very bustling town. FYI: I also really enjoyed staying in another town in the French speaking part called Champex, which was far less expensive. You can ski there and also take a short shuttle to the larger resort of Verbier. There is a nice boutique hotel called the Mont Lac which rooms and apartments that comfortably sleep 4. There are good restaurants and my favorite Swiss shop called "Vachement Suisse."

We enjoyed the Dine Around option for our family. The beautiful and elegant dining room at the Hotel Monte Rosa was amazing for breakfast but a bit too sedate for our family of 4. Highly highly recommend the Mont Cervin (Cervin Grill) for dinner - the service and food was A+.
