As the description reads on the website, the Hotel Continental is a no frills hotel with basically no amenities in the room or bathroom other than a soap dispenser and hair dryer and a room safe. That being said, the hotel served our purposes and we enjoyed our 4 night stay.

There is a desk and chair in the room, and plenty of storage space, including a wet spot to put your skis, boots, and hang your gear. The bed and pillows were comfy. The location is the reason we stayed - an easy 5 minute walk from the train station, right off the main street on a quiet side street, with quick access to the free bus and for mountain access. The included european breakfast of cold meats, cheeses, yogurt and breads was sufficient to start the day.

Anna at the front desk was lovely, and the staff in the breakfast room were friendly and helpful. If you get a good room rate, the hotel is a comfortable place to spend the night after busy days. I would stay again.

The Continental is not far from the train station so an easy walk even with luggage in tow. We liked that it was also very close to all the main attractions, shops, restaurants etc but was about a 1/2 block off the main street so that it was nice and quite; serene to be more accurate. The rooms are perhaps a bit small by American standards but quite nice none the less. The bathrooms had a large bathtub that was a rather high step to get into but the glass enclosure and high-volume shower head was well received. We had 2 rooms (one for our teenage boys) that had an adjoining balcony. It was small but the scenery looking up the mountains toward the Matterhorn was spectacular.

Breakfast was very typical European style. Lots of meats, cheeses, breads, grain cereals, yogurts, boiled eggs, fruit, and juices. A bit different that the usual scrambled eggs and bacon but still good and healthy. And of course in the middle of it all, they have a coffee machine that would take 3 or 4 people to lift. Makes great coffee but for those that cannot read German, it will take a bit of trial and error to figure out which buttons to push.

Down the street and opposite the train station there is a very busy grocery store called Coop (common in Switzerland). If you are on a budget, they have a great selection of warm foods (pizza, etc), sandwiches, sushi, and many other premade items that you can take back to your room or along on excursions/hikes. Wine, beer, water, and other drinks are very cheap in grocery stores but quite expensive in restaurants. We kept a nice selection in the frig in our rooms. BTW, the hotel supplies glasses, a cork screw and bottle opener in each room.

We would definitely choose to stay in the Zermatt Hotel Continental again.

Whilst it was a fairly bland room it was clean and reasonably comfortable. We had a problem with the radiator not working properly but were quickly provided with an adequate portable heater. We were later told there was nothing wrong with the radiator despite the fact that it was five foot high and was permanently cold/cool at the bottom and only luke warm at the top. The bathroom was clean and modern but there was no towel radiator and therefore we had to dry the towels on the luke warm radiator in the bedroom. The shower was not good as it had presumably been selected to fit the modern decor without thought as to it’s practical use. It was a straight shower head which simply pointed the water in one straight line making it impossible to shower properly without taking it off the wall and holding it. Breakfast was very good and all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

What a great find. Just 5 metres off of the main street, literally 200 metres from the main train station, the Continental was an affordable, clean and modern hotel. We woke up each day with a view of the Matterhorn. Couldn't ask for more! Breakfast was continental with plenty of meats, cheeses and cereals to choose from. The ski room had the most efficient boot warmers in the universe! The warmth of our ski boots after a night of drying has made getting them on so easy. Recommended hotel.

We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the station and good reviews. Lovely welcome, with information about what to do in Zermatt and how to get around. The hotel is off the main street so keep your eyes open for it, but this gives it a less stressful experience to check in.
The room was not huge, but clean and extremely well set up, with extra drawers and shelves in ingenious places so plenty of room to tidy away your stuff and feel at home. Empty fridge for your drinks. Kettle (had to ask for a second cup). Bathroom tiny and not well lit, but the shower had really good water pressure for a hot shower after a hike. The room did not have AC, but you could open the window, although it was still very hot at night. An electric fan would have been welcome. Our balcony was a good place to chill in the evenings but hot during the day.
Internet was a bit patchy somehow, maybe the router needed a reset.
Breakfast was included and consisted of eggs, small selection of meat and cheese, various loaves and pastries which were very good, even with delicious wholemeal versions. I missed some muesli or oats, but there was the Bircher muesli and also a selection of milk (soy, lactose free, and presumably full fat). Huge selection of herbal and black and green teas, and the coffee was good (from a machine, you could get the usual types).
Recommended.

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced option in Zermatt then this is a great choice. The rooms are bijou but very comfortable with all the amenities that you will need. Staff are attentive and the breakfast is more than adequate. But the best thing about this hotel is that it’s only 3 mins walk from the train station plus it’s in the Main Street right in the heart of the action. Zermatt is a wonderful town and this is a great base to discover it.

When I walked into the room it was disgustingly hot. There is no air condition or fan provided. I understand we are in what appears to be an older building so central air wasn't going to happen. But perhaps a portable air conditioner or fan would be nice. I ended up having to sleep with the porch door open all night both nights that I was there and it was quite loud outside. But i had to keep it open to get a little breeze. The bed was comfortable. The pillow was fluffy...but flat when your head hit it. The room I was in had a shower with a tub and a very narrow passage to the toilet. It was terrible. Who even uses a tub in a hotel?? Such a waste of space. Plus the tub was very high to step into. I definitely slipped a few times getting in. The best part of the room was the hot water and the water pressure was great. For $200 a night I expected much more. But it was honestly the cheapest room we could find as we didn't plan on spending much time in the room while in zermatt

Specifically requested for a room with balcony view of the mountains but was given a room where I can see someone else's balcony. The room was so dim could barely see anything. There was no one at reception so had to call and ask for a change of room, the staff came by an hour later. The staff gave a better room, I must say the staffs are very hospitable. As for the room and the property, I paid 300 SGD/night for that room which was totally not worth it at all, the bed and mattress provided was that of the dormitory or helper's room with metal frames where you can feel your back and the thin mattress sinking to the metal frame. The floor creaks, the ceiling has paint cracks, overall the property is very worn out, and totally different indication from the photos which mislead me into booking. It really needs to be furnished and revamped. Definitely not worth the expensive rate paid for that kind of room.

Excellent staff and close to the train station. I stayed here one night as I had arrived from the Glacier Express. Other hotels were two to three times more expensive, but I understood that this was a bare bones basic hotel for travelers that just need a place to sleep. It hit that on all marks, but better than being at a hostel or some cheaper place. Your balcony is not private but you look out at a courtyard and see other interesting travelers, some hanging their laundry out to dry.

The breakfast is awful, no selection and cheap. My TV did not work, but I wasn't really going to be watching TV. This hotel is what it is, a budget hotel that is 3 stars. No disappointment for me as I knew it was what I was getting. Great location to the trains and town.

The hotel is very well located – just a couple of minute walk from the station, and in close proximity to restaurants and shops. We only stayed a couple of nights but we really enjoyed the room. The bed was overall the best we had on our entire two week trip! In the basic room we picked there was no equipment to make our own hot drinks but reception supplied us with a kettle which was nice. Staff were great, smooth check in and check out. We also really liked the breakfast spread – well worth it!
