This was our 2nd stay at this property and it is still as charming as 10 years ago. We loved our suite with the unobstructed views of the Matterhorn. Check in was friendly and efficient. The hosts are very welcoming and one feels almost like family instead of like a guest. Pick up and drop off from the train station was included. The hotel does not have a restaurant, so breakfast is served in the suite. One orders online the evening before, indicating the required delivery time and the breakfast cart is brought to your suite on time. The hotel has a lovely wellness Center with an indoor pool, steam and sauna rooms as well as an outdoor jacuzzi with awesome views. Nice touches like afternoon tea with cake create a homey feeling. We look forward to our next visit which will hopefully not be in 10 years only!

Beautifully designed alpine hotel, with unimpeded views of the Matterhorn on the edge of town. Family-run establishment with great attention to service and hospitality. Very comfortable rooms. Nice spa and wellness facilities, although no gym (common in Zermatt it seems). Excellent breakfasts (ordered a la carte via a tablet in your room) are served to your room each day. Highly recommended.

Staff were friendly and accommodating, although there was an unfortunate mix-up over our booking and we had to leave the room a day earlier than expected.
Beware - we were originally allocated a chalet about 10/15 mins walk away from the actual hotel where the spa facilities and tea/cake are located. We just spotted this in time and changed to a suite in the hotel.
It’s generally very good but somehow lacks the polish you expect from a Swiss hotel.
The breakfasts are good, and we highly recommend the fondue on the balcony as a very memorable evening meal.
Views of the Matterhorn from the Lauberhorn suite are spectacular (weather permitting).
It’s worth noting that the sockets in this part of Switzerland don’t seem to take the usual European plug, so you might want to bring some adaptors for the diamond-shaped Swiss socket.

This was our third time to Suitenhotel Zurbriggen, the last time being in 2018. We are a family with two adults and two older teens. As always, we loved our time here and can't imagine staying anywhere else in Zermatt. It is a really special place, where we feel at home.

Pros: Location across from gondola and with amazing views of the Matterhorn from the room and spa; breakfast in the room; cake in the afternoon by the pool; whole spa/pool area is divine; helpful, responsive and friendly concierge and staff; very spacious rooms. Cozy, intimate feel in the hotel, yet spacious.
Cons: This will be the third time in 7 years I have suggested the hotel provide hair conditioner in the rooms, so I suppose it's pointless to continue to suggest it. For women with long hair, it's essential, and with liquid requirements on flights, it is a pain to pack it. We didn't like that when we ordered soft-boiled eggs, we received a basket of raw eggs with a sign "cook me". This differed from years past, and we ordered scrambled eggs on following days as we don't want to cook on vacation, even if it's just an egg :). The rooms are showing wear, especially, the wood floors, but are still very comfortable. Speaking of comfort, we were really hot at night - this was not the case on prior trips, and it would be nice to be able to control the climate in our room.

Despite these minor suggestions for improvement, we highly recommend this hotel and we can't wait to return!

If you like to wake up in the morning, open the curtains and have an amazing view on the Matterhorn, this is the place where you want to be. This hotel offers an unobstructed view on the Matterhorn, and it will stay like this, since no more construction work is allowed in front of it. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the suites with balconies are equipped with a kitchen in case you want to prepare your own meals. The spa is amazing, and the heated pool outside offers a great view on the mountains. The skilift is across the street which also makes it a perfect place to stay in the winter. This is also the lift which you need to take when going to Italy, or go sking on the glacier (which is also open in summer). The connecting cable car opened in July this year and it is really worthwhile to take the trip from Zermatt to Cervinia and back. Many thanks to the hotel owners and staff that made our stay an unforgettable experience.

Hotel was hands down the nicest on our trip to Switzerland. The views, the amenities, the pool/spa/hot tub, the staff all were perfect. Family owned hotel and can clearly tell. Not commercialised and very homey. Whatever you need the staff is willing to help you. Wish we stayed for more nights. Free shuttle from train to hotel. Walking to downtown is only 10 minutes. Breakfast was amazing that was delivered to the room. We forgot to order the night before and John in the kitchen assisted us. Highly recommend staying at this location, can't wait to return!

There are many, many hotels in Zermatt, all of them promising a view of the Matterhorn. For most of them, that view is mostly of other hotels and buildings, with the Matterhorn in the background. At the Hotel Zurbriggen, every room has a totally unobstructed view of the Matterhorn, with nothing in between but gorgeous green trees and grass! And even though it's on the edge of town, it's still a very easy 5 to 10 minute walk to central Zermatt. There's also great access to hiking trails directly from the hotel. We really can't say enough good things about this wonderful hotel. Pirmin and Moni (the owners) are so warm, attentive, and friendly, and they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Our suite (Cry d'Er) was spectacular and beautifully appointed. The spa facilities are unbelievable - outdoor jacuzzi (from which you can gaze at the Matterhorn), sauna, heated indoor swimming pool, etc. You order your breakfast each evening from an iPad in your suite, and it is delivered to you on a cart each morning - full of pastries, meats, cheeses, eggs made to order, juice, fruit, yogurt, coffee, etc. Such a luxury. They also put out freshly baked cake and an assortment of teas every afternoon. Our suite had a full kitchen, so we were able to cook dinner for several nights of our stay, which helped us to save some money (plus it's nice not to eat out every night). My sister and I got massages from Clementine, the wonderful massage therapist, on our one rainy day, and it was worth every penny. We will most definitely be back, and we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere in Zermatt but the Hotel Zurbriggen.

Where is the best place to stay in Zermatt? Unsurprisingly, hundreds of TripAdvisor reviewers have declared that their first hotel experience in Zermatt was excellent wherever they stayed, and that they planned to return to the same hotel in the future. We would argue that Zermatt’s magic is so abundant that guests associate that magic with wherever they happen to be staying, creating instant loyalty regardless of the hotel’s actual merits. This can prevent visitors from discovering the small number of Zermatt lodgings which create truly exceptional experiences for their guests, and which elevate a Zermatt vacation to a new level. In this regard the Suitenhotel Zurbriggen is without equal.

The Swiss set an example to the world with their warm hearts, wonderful good humor, sincere interest in the world at large, and tolerance—a reason to visit Switzerland in and of itself. These qualities are personified by your hosts at the Suitenhotel, the Olympic gold medalist Pirmin Zurbriggen and his wife Moni, sister of famed Zermatt architect Heinz Julen and a highly accomplished individual in her own right. Moni and Pirmin extend genuine friendship to their guests and are joined by their wonderful assistants, including Wanda and Anette. You will truly come to know and admire them during your stay, as they make a sincere and caring effort to get to know you as well, both as guests and as friends. After wonderfully stimulating conversations and relaxed opportunities to interact (including weekly garden aperitifs and even ski outings with Pirmin himself) your faith in human nature will be renewed, and you will depart from Zermatt knowing that you have real friends to return to.

Zermatt has the virtue of lacking petrol-powered vehicles, making the air the cleanest you will ever breathe, but the town is nevertheless bustling. While that is part of its fun, there are few truly peaceful areas left in Zermatt proper where you can retreat and be at one with the Matterhorn. Only the south end of Zermatt is zoned to be permanently pristine, and the major beneficiary of that zoning is the Suitenhotel Zurbriggen. The Suitenhotel is situated to provide a magical connection with nature while avoiding remoteness from Zermatt itself, making it the ideal alternative to staying in a rustic but inconvenient suburb such as Winkelmatten. Every suite in the Suitenhotel Zurbriggen is essentially an apartment which is blessed by unobstructed views of the Matterhorn and River Visp, wonderful kitchen facililties and generous balcony or patio space. While a few of Heinz Julen’s architectural touches are apparent, Moni and Pirmin were the principal designers of the Suitenhotel Zurbriggen and this makes it the warmest and most comfortable of the lodgings infused by Heinz Julen’s genius (others include the renowned Coeur Des Alpes, Focus, Backstage and Omnia, and his award winning design for a pyramid-shaped hotel atop the Klein Matterhorn cable station awaits implementation).

Despite the peacefulness of the Suitenhotel’s setting, it is within a block of the Matterhorn Express gondolas which swiftly and quietly deliver you to the Schwarsee (famous Matterhorn reflecting lake) and hence to the high world of glaciers and perpetual snow emanating from the Trockener Steg. Skiers find endless opportunities in this Glacier Paradise, including 7000 foot vertical descents into Italy, but also can quickly connect to Zermatt’s other major ski areas via the Furi-Riffelberg gondola (Gornergrat ski area) and from there descend to Gant to link to the Sunnega-Blauherd-Rothorn area. Hikers equally benefit from the Suitenhotel’s perfect location, especially Peak Pass holders who can just jump on the lift system anytime they want. Furthermore, it is a delightful 2-10 minute walk from the Suitenhotel (largely alongside the River Visp) to great restaurants, the wonderful Migros Supermarket, and fascinating bookstores and shops. It’s worth mentioning that both green and red electric bus lines stop conveniently close to the Suitenhotel and arrive right on schedule, making it a snap to transport groceries and/or tired feet from virtually any location in Zermatt back to your apartment. Especially helpful are the public elevators which eliminate a vertical climb between the green bus stop on the River Visp and the higher road where the Matterhorn Paradise ski station and Suitenhotel are perched. The bus system is free to those with ski or hiking passes. (The Suitenhotel provides free transfers between the train station and the hotel on arrival and departure days.)

There are many, many perks to staying at the Suitenhotel Zurbriggen. Breakfast is wheeled into your suite and set out with candlelight and flowers at your chosen time daily. This is the ultimate breakfast experience, designed to your specifications and complemented by Swiss attention to artistic detail. This strikes us as much more civilized than having to shower and dress to attend a breakfast buffet in a standard hotel dining room. Butter and chocolate croissants, fresh baked breads and rolls of every variety, scrambled eggs, air dried beef and other meats and cheeses, fruit, yogurts, muesli and dry cereals are standard items on the breakfast checklist, and if you want some item not on the checklist, ask and you likely shall receive at no extra charge. Beware that if you check off every breakfast item on the checklist out of curiosity or adventurousness, food enough for six meals will be delivered to your room! Thanks to each suite’s complete kitchen, that extra food can be put to great use as lunch sandwiches and dinner pasta ingredients. Fondue and raclette appliances are available for guest use, and light supper items can be ordered for a modest charge if you simply want to order in for dinner without any effort.

The beautiful indoor swimming pool and special spa features literally constitute a waterpark for adults. The Matterhorn views from the indoor pool and the outdoor Jacuzzi are unmatched in beauty anywhere on this planet. Barbeque facilities, DVD’s, umbrellas for the occasional rainy day, walking sticks and even mountain bikes are provided for guests.

Finally, the intimacy of such a limited number of guests (only nine or so apartments, including lock off bedrooms which can be rented separately) assures that this is a personalized experience, while still allowing privacy. Our contact with other guests, all of whom were delightful, was perfectly comfortable with no pressure to interact. Both hosts and guests were free to be themselves. If you prefer a hotel which exudes snobbery or even polite formality you might be better off staying elsewhere. Otherwise, the Suitenhotel Zurbriggen may well be your best bet to experience all the magic that Zermatt has to offer.

I'm at a loss as to why this amazing place isn't ranked much, much higher. Pretty much all the reviews are 5-stars. The only thing I can think of is that so many people fall in love with this place that they become repeat guests and don't write a new review every time they come back. As a result, they don't have as many recent reviews, which lowers their rankings. This is a shame because this place deserves to be #1.

First of all, as anyone can tell from the pictures, it has THE best view of Matterhorn in all of Zermatt. It's at the edge of the town, so there's nothing between the hotel and Matterhorn--no cable lines, no buildings, nothing! Just a beautiful green meadow. We had a perfect, centered view of Matterhorn from our bed!

Second, the breakfast. Other hotels we stayed in on this trip offered a buffet breakfast, which I liked because I love having a huge, hearty all-you-can-eat breakfast (and TONS of coffee)--sampling lots of different foods, going back for seconds, etc. I was a little worried that "ordering" breakfast the night before, I wouldn't get the variety and quantity you get at a buffet. But I needn't have worried. They brought out lots of food, tons of variety, huge pots of espresso and coffee, and it was great to be able to eat in our pajamas, staring at the gorgeous view of Zermatt.

Finally, the facilities and all the little extras. A welcome glass of wine/prosecco, fresh and dried fruit and delicious cakes and tea every afternoon, a cocktail hour mid-week with the owners (with the best curry sausages and amazing mixed drinks), free bikes, a wonderful pool, dry and wet saunas, ice showers, and my favorite--a wonderful hot tub right at the front of the property, with perfect views of the Matterhorn. Everything immaculate and beautiful. Totally top notch.

I don't often write reviews of hotels. (I mean to, but life gets in the way and I forget). But I really had to speak up for this one because it is extremely special!!!!!
