Travellers' Choice
The picture-postcard mountain village of Wengen carries Switzerland into the world. For years, an international mix of guests has found their way to the lively hotel in the best location in the car-free village, and not only because of the famous Lauberhorn ski race. In addition to the large wellness area, the main attraction in the historic building is the sun terrace with a view of the Jungfrau and the surrounding impressive mountain landscape.

I booked 3 bedrooms for 6 adults and my 2 grandkids from 8th April to 11th April 2021. The staff were all without exception very helpful and friendly. I would especially like to mention Mareike in the restaurant who was exceptional and very good with my grandkids. She is a real asset to you - I understand she has worked at the hotel for 18 years. She went out of her way to be helpful, friendly and made us feel very welcome. She made a real difference and went beyond what is expected.

We received a voucher for 2 nights as a wedding gift in this hotel (which nevertheless kept mentioning the price per night of 260 CHF, even on the bill!): the whole hotel needs urgent refurbishing, balconies are made of a dirty iron board, rooms are much smaller and less furnished shown on pictures, towels are small and thin, the only have twin beds (a blanket was used to construct a queen size, what a wedding attention...), no complimentary products, no welcoming effort is made by a very young staff, none of whom speaks French. You have to do everything by yourself, and there is a feeling a youth hostel about it. The worst was the evening meal (CHF 45, 'glacier' tap water... 3.50 CHF): industrial tasteless dishes in very little quantity, especially for skiers, and even artificial colouring, very rapid service (to get rid of customers by 9.30). Very sad when you have no option given the COVID19 situation than eat at the hotel. The Swiss hotel industry is cashing public subsidies while taking advantage of the situation for offering low services for shockingly high prices, with no attention for guests. Water and coffee capsules are not refilled in the room (and you cannot go outside for a drink), despite previous comments, and there is no tea/boiler. A total shame. The spa and breakfast are OK.

Room Tip: avoid this hotel, the price is just outrageous for what it provides

We stayed in a double room on the front of the hotel and paid chf 857 for 2 nights including half pension. From the minute we arrived, every was wrong. Because of the snow we got delayed, so we rang the hotel to advise them that we would arrive shortly after 21:00, and to advise tge restaurant. Upon arrival, the hotel reception area looked very dated, and very cheap. We were told that the kitchen had done us a cold platter and since the restaurant stopped serving (at 21:00?????) we should go to another room next to the bar. When we arrived there, there was another couple, who advised us to ask for a blanket as it was about 18 degres. The cold platter arrived, some kind of cold cut, no cheese, we declined it as it was not inspiring. It took another trip to the reception to organise a replacement. Green salad, with a couple of tomatoes with a few pomegranate kerns. Very very basic. We had to beg to get a piece of cheese with it, as the kitchen was apparently already closed.... The next day, we went out and came back around 14:00 wanting a coffee. Both the restaurant and bar were closed. All families were scattered around a room next to the bar picnicking. Yes, picnicking!!!!. We went to the reception and they were able to organise a coffee and piece of cake for us -in the picnic room!!!! The coffee was tiepid and the cake stale. By that time, we were getting pretty fed up, so we decided to visit the spa. We actually chose the hotel because of its spa. To our astonishment, the pool and so called spa were absolutely packed with people, families, children etc...they allow a maximum of 80 people at anytime and it felt extremely crowded in the rather small area. We never made it to the sauna as it was always full. 2 people max allowed. Then came the evening when we were told that due to Covid rules, and based on our room number we were to go to the hotel between 20:00 and 20:30 ( 2nd service) As we arrived there were about 15-20 people queueing in front of the restaurant and back to the stairs. It took us 35 mns wait until we were finally allowed in the restaurant!!!!. Once seated, it clearly looked as if the poor staff were totally overwhelmed, and overworked. We waited another 25 minutes before someone took our order. The menu had 2 different choices of starters, and 3 maincourses. We never made it to the desert because the food was so mediocre, so tasteless and extremely uninspiring that we hardly touched it. What a poor show, for the price we paid it was shocking. I have eaten better food in a cantine!!! The hotel itself is dated, tasteless, and really run on a small budget. It is more like a 2 stars than a place where you pay over chf 400 a night. Simply BAD. What a shame because the location is great, and the building looks ok from the outside. It truly lacks style, passion and inspiration and one does not feels welcome at all, even if some members of the staff really did their best to help us not having a nervous breackdown out of frustration. We do not understand how anyone could rate that place with 5 stars. This just does not deserve 5, nor 4, nor 3 stars. 1 is all we’ll give it, and that is because we cannot give zero. Do yourselves a favour and go somewhere else!!!

We live in Geneva and decided to come up for a little break. It was brilliant - both relaxing and fun. The hotel was welcoming, warm, friendly, clean, and very covid-controlled so we felt very safe despite everything happening. The bar was wonderful (KiKi made us the best cocktails - and we were able to watch the rugby too) and the food & service were brilliant. Relaxing in the spa after a long day’s skiing - directly to the door - was a real treat. Perfect place for a revitalising break.
