“Our small grand hotel” is centrally located in Glarus – the smallest capital city in the world. Built in 1861, this traditional hotel is a harmonious blend of modern requirements and nostalgic charm. It is an ideal base for business travellers, leisure seekers and active, sports-minded holidaymakers alike. The large, modern rooms afford spectacular views over the mountains of the Glarner Mittelland. From small, tasty snacks, regional specialities and juicy, charcoal-barbecued treats to the gourmet menu, the “Le Gourmet” restaurant and the garden terrace leave nothing to be desired. The extensive wine list offers an exquisite selection, ranging from the small Glarus vineyard to the vast expanses of Spain and Bordeaux. Our three banqueting suites provide a perfect setting for conferences, seminars and festive occasions for up to 200 people.

All things are relative, and compared with what else is available in the area, this is a five-star hotel. (In Zurich, probably four stars). But the rooms are spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable, and they have all of the necessary amenities, including refrigerators and fast wifi. As others have noted, the mountain views are spectacular. Conveniently located across the street from the train station. The staff is very friendly and helpful and, as with most hotels in Switzerland, their English is a thousand times better than my German! You won't find Glarus in many guidebooks, which is a shame since it's a relaxing little town in a spectacular valley.

Hotel Glarnerhof had plain bedrooms, but was in a great location and the view from our room was fabulous. The hotel is located across from the park so we could see the beautiful fountain from our window, and more improtantly, the amazing views of the Alps. Food at restaurant was pricey, but phenomenal. Staff very accommodating. Only complaint is that there was no air condition and the rooms got very hot at night. Road noise with windows open to cool room off. All in all though I enjoyed it and would stay there again.

The hotel is just besides the station, so it is quite in the central. I guess it's the best hotel in the area and depending upon your room choice you'll have a nice view to the park opposite the hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for a single night in early March whilst on a business trip. The room was small, specifically for single occupancy, but the standard was good. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Views from the front of the hotel were great - the park below and the alps above, and on all sides. THe hotel was spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished.

I stayed here for 3 days in September 2018. I was in the area for work and they had booked the room for me. It is a nice hotel, with friendly staff and good restaurant. The hotel itself is not the most modern hotel I ever stayed in, but it is clean, has free WiFi, and I had a flatscreen tv in my room. Everything seemed very reasonably priced.

I recently stayed at Hotel Glarnerhof while traveling in Switzerland. The hotel is centrally located across the street from the train station in Glarus, and nearby the park and with great views of the mountains (the view is free - no additional charge!). The room was small with an efficient layout. The bathroom had the necessary basic amenities (hair dryer, shampoo/body wash, hand soap), and the hotel was clean and quiet. I didn't have much interaction with the hotel staff, but what interaction I did have was always pleasant.

Worth noting is that the bed was very firm. Whether you like that or not is entirely a personal preference, but I do think it's worth mentioning. The hotel's breakfast bar was great - a decent spread of local flavors (pastries, eggs, meat, cheese, yogurt, fruit, coffee, juice, etc). If you have the opportunity to eat dinner in the restaurant, I would strongly consider it - my best meal during my stay in Glarus was at the hotel.

My only complaint is that the room had an air freshener in it (plug-in style). Also a matter of personal preference, but I don't reall like air fresheners.

All-in-all, I strongly recommend the Hotel Glarnerhof if your travels bring you through the Glarus region.

A large group of us popped in there after a hike. We were welcomed, even though we only ordered coffees. The food looked lovely and the setting incredible. I would like to go back with the kids and SUP there, hire Kayaks and check in for the weekend to make the most of this beautiful area.

The Glarnerhof is perfectly located in the center of Glarus and next to the railway station.
The rooms are adequately furnished - some more spacious than others, the service friendly and courteous and the food is great!
This was not my first stay at the hotel and it will not be my last! This property is warmly recommended.

We have a night in this nice hotel in the heart of Glarus. The rooms are nice and spacious, the corridors and stairways, and lounge are historically furnished. Its a great location from which you can easily explore Glarus on foot.

Good friendly hotel with excellent location, facilities and friendly staff. Rooms look a little tired but with views like that who looks at the room decor anyway. English cable channels and a pc for guest use.

"I would recomend to stay above the entrance like I did, on the right side (standing with your back against the entrance) of the hotel there is a main road through Glarus, but there is a house in between to take the sound...but then you cant see the mountains. And on the left side is a train-station and the outdoor dining during summer."
