I had a single room, and the whole thing felt like an Ibis Budget hotel. Solid value, clean, and overall just pleasant. Very centrally located, yet quiet because it is in the valley close to the river (directly underneath the Swiss parliament). Nice dinner for under CHF 20, and plentiful breakfast buffet. Great choice, even for business trips. For me personally also nice memories, since I had been there with youth groups many, many years ago.

We had a private room in the separate building overlooking the river. I really enjoyed the giant windows and views! The bed was SO comfortable, I wish I could have taken the mattress with me all over Switzerland. The aesthetic is kind of bare and spartan with the cement walls, but I liked it. Spacious bathroom with a flood shower and lots of shelf space by the door. Breakfast was pretty basic, but it was included. Plenty of tables outside to enjoy the sunshine during the day, and a coffee shop inside. Storage room to keep your things after checking out, really central location, and they gave us a visitor card for public transportation. I'd recommend!

I stayed here for a night in Bern in one the 8 person rooms which was in the main building. I think the other building has the private rooms (hotel style.)

There’s a clean bed and new sheets for you to put on. The room has 8 beds each with a night light and electric outlet. The entry way into the room has the closet locker which can fit a med size suitcase. The room and locker use a RFID key to open. The bathroom and showers are in the hall way with a 2-3 of each on each floor. You’ll need to bring your own shampoo and soap for the shower. I found the shower clean but small with only a couple hangers to put your items.

I had the dinner ($17.50) because I arrived in the evening and there’s no food in the area around it. Dinner was pork, noodles, veggies, salad and a slice of cake. The breakfast was good with cereal, yogurt, bread, cold cuts, cheeses and hot beverages and juices.

The location of the hostel is below the parliament building in the suburbs. There’s not much around.

When you check in, you’ll get a local transportation card for unlimited use of the trams and buses for the main parts of the city.

The hostel is very organized and professional.

Me and my friend stayed here for 2 nights. In the middle of the night my friend awoke to intense burning and itching and swelling all over her body. The bed was covered in bed bugs. We took several photos and my friend was covered in at least 20 bites. Went downstairs to the reception which they said was monitored for 24 hours, had to wait for over an hour for someone to show up. They offered a refund but did not show any concern for the fact that the room is contaminated and guests needed to be moved. They also admitted that they had PRIOR KNOWLEDGE FROM THE PAST WEEK of the infestation and had taken no action to call an exterminator or seal off the room or warn the guests. They did not offer another bed or room even though it was the middle of the night. After an extensive phone call with the manager, she showed no remorse. She was rude and refused to inform the other guests in the room that there was an infestation and would not seal off the room, even though there was 6 other girls sleeping in there. She did not want to talk and kept on trying to end the phone call. There was blood on the sheets and mattress and she did not care and said the room would continue to be used. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and treatment. They asked if we would like to stay another night, we refused and left.

I stayed here at the Bern Youth Hostel as my base while in town visiting a special exhibit at the Kunstmuseum (Museum of Fine Arts). I arrived early in the day and picked up my transit card which is included with all Bern overnight stays. I toured the town during the morning while waiting for check-in later. The Bern Youth Hostel is located at a great spot next to the Aare River and a park across the street.

Staff:
Check-in went very smoothly (except for parking issues, see closing note) and staff was super friendly. They happily gave maps, info about the city and answered my other inquiries.
Room:
I had a double room in the new building and all these rooms face the park and the Aare River. This new wing is a separate building with card access via stairs or elevator. I was most pleased with my spacious room with bedside table, a small table and chair, large windows, storage shelves, in-room bathroom (toilet, wet bathroom with shower curtain, and sink). Bedding was provided. At check-out, just strip the bed and leave bedding/towels in the bins near the stairs. The beds were simple, but very comfortable. There are several wall power outlets in the room.
Services:
There is a seating area near reception, two-level seating space in the dining room with the upper seating area offering tables & chairs, sofas, a table fussball game, juke box, and more.
Food/Meals:
-Breakfast, served between 06.30-10 (though c/i receipt states 7a-10a) was very good with a nice variety of breads, fruits, sliced meats/cheese, jams & chocolate spreads, cereals, fruit cocktail, muesli, yogurt, cream cheese, apple sauce, hot/cold beverages, powdered chocolate, juices, and more. A great start to the day!
-Dinner was just as impressive. There is a full salad bar, soup, beverages, and the night’s dinner consisted of beef over pasta, veggies and dessert all for just 17.50CHF. Check the daily menu at reception and purchase your dinner ticket at check-in or early in the day as meals may be limited when the hostel is at capacity. The food was delicious and hearty!
Extras:
The hostel offers limited pre-reserved parking; free secured Wi-Fi (access code on check-in/payment receipt). The Youth Hostel is located near public transit and the Drahtseilbahn which can whisk you up the hill if you are not up for the steep walk to the Bundeshaus. The transit pass is also good for the seilbahn.
Negative:
Parking issues. Though there is understandable limited parking, I reserved a parking spot along with my reservation. At check-in, parking spot was not available and staff was not really able to monitor or secure the reserved spaces. I was given a special spot to park until a spot became available.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Bern Youth Hostel and would certainly visit again and highly recommend!

We just stayed this week with my family of 4 including 2 children of 9 and 11, while the room was relatively small with a pair of bunker beds the reality is perfect for those that are looking for an easy place. Breakfast is good enough and they also serve a very nice warm dinner. Location was perfect just walking distance from the old town. Highly recommended for families as well.

This was the first time I stayed in a Youth Hostel as I. normally stay in 4 or 5 star hotels but I've changed certain aspects of my life as a traveller.

This hostel had some negative reviews in the past but it has been completely refurbished its brand new. I arrived on the 5th day of its opening.

It's absolutely amazing it's clean spacious everything about the place is simply amazing. It's location us perfect and the views from the place awesome. It's right alongside the River Aare...

The WiFi is free throughout, the meals breakfast and lunch are ample. The staff are super. All the facilities toilets, rooms, bedding, etc spotless.

I actually spoke with the Asst Manager very open and interesting lady, very very nice too. 😁😘 Infact I didn't come across any of the staff who were contrary. I know we all have our moments so there must be someone a bit grumpy 😡.

Great hostel great atmosphere definitely stay here again might even live here.. Don't hesitate staying here it's a truly amazing place. They also have free parking spaces but it's limited. I had to park on the street but they said any problems with the car they'll sort it as I did reserve a parking place.

The gold 🥇 standard of hostel.. Oh another thing is that there are plenty of families with kids here also..

No 1 hostel!

It's a clean hostel, but I was very disappointed to see that although I booked to stay in the Women's Only dorm, they allowed a random man to stay. I complained at reception and they did nothing, even though looking through the list of names in the dorm, there was no man listed. It was highly uncomfortable and if I knew they were going to be this lax, I never would have booked to stay here. I would've rather spent some more money and gotten a private room somewhere. Do not recommend, at all.

Good location by the river, in easy reach of all sights and restaurants/bars.
Bedrooms and facilities are clean and comfortable, with a good bar and very good breakfast. Friendly and professional service. Recommended!

Professional service, very close to the city centre and the railway.

Cleanliness of toilets and showers is sometimes difficult but it is not because of the personnel - there is a lack of good design in them: they might be OK if part of a 'normal' hotel where all rooms would have their individual toilets, but too few for used by all residents.

Breakfast is good. All worth to stay for everyone who does not wish to spend much money or more money for accommodation.
