We stopped here on our way back from Switzerland for 2 nights in December 2018 ,the room was meant to be a mountain view however the windows were very small and could hardly see out of them unless we stood on a bed. Parking was very good especially as it was in the centre of the town. Our check in was not the best as the lady on the desk didn't speak very good English. The lift was quite smelly noisy and a little bit dangerous for children but it was an old building. Next morning we spoke to another lady who moved us to a different room which was much better views with interlocking room to the children. The breakfast was continental. The beds were very comfortable but no tea making facilities in the room.
What fun to stay so centrally in the historic part of Bern! The Goldener Schlüssel is a great choice for this. Although it is in a historic building, my room was compact and up to date. I had a lovely view of the roof tops in historic Bern. Breakfast was tasty and offered a good choice of items and coffee was freshly made, cup by cup.
It should be the oldest hotel in Bern - and this is perhaps the most special about it. It is a small hotel - situated in the nice old area of Bern. Reception was fine. I had a single room - very small, not that comfortable bed - and a little bathroom squezed into the room. It was quiet - but I do not know if it always is so: there were put earplugs on my pillow (never experienced this before).
Hotel is located in the middle of everything. Bern Train Station is a 10 - 15 minutes walk or take the street car, 2 stops. Cab ride is actually longer, because they have to circle the area to get to the hotel. The staff is awesome, friendly and more than willing to provide great advice for the area. Also they give us a transportation pass that allows us to take all the transportation in the area (bus, street cars, tram, train, etc). Real nice. Clock tower is five minutes away, shopping area is all over the place, including several supermarkets. However, do your shopping early, they all closed by 6:30 except on Thursdays by 9:00. All the street cars seems to run around the area, traveling to site seeing locations is a breeze. Restaurants are all over, but they all closed by 10:00 pm, eat early. Rooms are small but comfortable. There is NO air conditioner in the room. I would advise not to stay here when it is hot. If you open the window, you can hear all the conversation from the street, and it is crowded till late at night. A set of ear plugs are provided for you on your pillow. Also a problem is the construction, they started around 6:30 am. And I’m talking about major construction noise. The breakfast is small but nice. Good coffee and friendly staff. Hotel has its problem with noise and no AC, but a nice place. Probably will come back in the future.…
Perfect location in the heart of Bern. We had the top floor room with a balcony. Just perfect. The staff was really friendly. The breakfest is included, which doesn't happen that often in switzerland. There was some construction right in front of the hotel but it didn't botther us that much. IMPORTANT: yes parking is available but you must pay for it and it is a short walk from the hotel. They will provide you with a paper so you can park in front of the hotel while you get settled.
