We stayed at the Palazzo Alfani in February in the Santo Spirito Suite, which was absolutely beautiful and furnished with much care and attention to detail. The bed was possibly the most comfortable I have ever slept in! It's a lovely quiet apartment and the owner, Francesca, was very charming and spirited, supplying us with a list of favourite restaurants...

We read the reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed with Palazzo Alfani. Our 2 boys aged 12 and 10 were very comfortable on the pull out sofa bed and our room was clean and well presented. The courtyard we overlooked was beautiful even in winter and our position gave us a good nights sleep, even on New Years Eve!...

My husband and I stayed in Florence for 3 nights as part of a month long trip round Italy France and Switzerland. My husband is such a light sleeper that if his night's sleep is disturbed, I want to leave him, get my passport and come home without him!! Our 3 nights with Francesca were simply the best. We enjoyed...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and are both agreed that it is the best place we have stayed in in Italy. Everything about the apartment was amazingly good quality, from the rooms, to the fixtures and fittings to the incredibly comfortable bed. Francesca, the owner, was amazingly welcoming and very accommodating. Her recommendations of places to...

Francesca rescued us on Christmas Eve. A family of 2 teenage boys and 2 adults. We had had a bad experience on arrival in Florence with our accommodation booked over the internet back in Australia and had to leave immediately. Even though out of town and over the phone, Francesca was so kind and generous. She organised a beautiful appartment...

We stayed at Palazzo Alfani for our anniversary. We have been traveling to Florence over the past 20 years and always stayed in hotels. For this occasion we wanted to have a new experience and chose an apartment. What a great experience. We were in the center of town, Francesca had numerous wonderful recommendations for us food lovers. It was...

Palazzo Alfani is a very nice and charming experience in Firenze. The room and bathroom are large and you can feel as were living there. Palazzo doesn't have breakfast but you can buy everything you want at the market, a few meters (20 meters) from the door; the other option is to go to a restaurant close to the hotel...

We had been staying at a small hotel in Rome for 5 days & upon arriving to Florence the Palazzo Alfani was just heaven. We arrived a little late due to the train but Francesca was very friendly & helpful upon our arrival, even providing a delicious cake for a Christmas treat. The location was wonderful, we easily walked to...

Three large rooms - Kitchen with breakfast table, King Bedroom, and large living room with dining table. Cable internet (free) was an added bonus. Evening pre-dinner Chianti and cheese helped hold down dinner appetites (saved us $) while we decided on the restaurant. Location of the Palazzo Alfani is fantastic. In early December, we watched Florence dress up with lights...

After a three-day stay at the Palazzo Alfani, I have only positive things to say about this wonderful apartment hotel: - The owner Francesca is very charming and extremely helpful. Communication with her was easy and she made every effort to accommodate our early arrival time. - The apartment (we booked the San Marco suite overlooking the Accademia and Via...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
