Beds were the MOST uncomfterable of our entire month long stay--hard as a rock. This is in comparison to beds on trains and a couple of hostals. The neighbors in the back have nightly church service until after 10 pm, so you can choose from street noise or late Christian rock. You can hear very well through the windows. I...

Given the price of the Hotel Colorado that we managed to get on venere.com, we weren't expecting 4 star accommodation- in fact, we were expecting 1 star... The hotel was easy to find, and close to the centre of florence, as advertised. When we arrived our room wasn't ready but they let us get changed and washed and leave our...

The Good..It is a good location for accesssing al amenities, especially the Statue of David. Also, check-in staff were very helpful. The Bad..Breakfast was very poor, stale coffee and bread rolls were the order of the day! The hotel is also situated several floors up with no lift or porter facilities. The Ugly...we discovered a nice surprise of a used...

I read great reviews of this place and was completely mislead. The place is definitely not worth your money. It has a good location, but thats about it. In fact we found the place pretty scary and couldnt even stay there. The staff was friendly and helpful, but I would recommend going for a 3 star hotel and spending the...

This is the best 1-star hotel I've seen. The location is very convenient, it's close to all the landmarks. The room was neat and cozy. The service was great, we got various information and recommendation of a good restaurant. The breakfast was very nice. For conclusion - great value and highly recommended!

I enjoyed by stay at the hotel Colorado very much. The hotel is small and the rooms are not without their flaws, but for the price I paid, I am 110% happy. The owner was very friendly, I felt safe in my room, and the bed was comfortable. The downsides - you have to walk the stairs to the hotel...

We stayed at Hotel Colorado in October 2005 with our 2 little children. If you have a lot of luggage, take a taxi from the Florence SMN train station. Otherwise, it's about a 20 minute walk from there. Many steps to the 2nd floor(more like 3rd floor), where the hotel is located, no elevator. The staff is friendly and they...

At 35 Euros a night you can't go wrong. The entrance however, is a bit scary. It means taking two flights of stairs in a dark, dingy stairwell. I was wandering what I had gotten myself into. When I opened the door to the hotel, however, all seemed right. There is only staff during the daytime but, guests are given...

We visited the Hotel Colorado in early November 2005. The staff was friendly, and the hotel was clean. We stayed in a double room, which included both a full bed and a small twin bed, and shower stall in private bathroom, for $54 euro per night. The rate included a typical breakfast (cheeses, rolls, nutella, coffee). It's about a 10...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.

“The rooms facing the road are a better bet as they get some breeze in the evening, which I felt was a big plus if someone is travelling in the summers as there are no Fans in the hotel. Although the staff will provide you floor fans, i'd rather rely on the natural breeze from the big windows.”
