We were extremely happy with our stay at the Santa Maria Novella Hotel. It was well appointed with many upscale amenities. The staff very helpful, knowledgeable and attentive to your needs. We walked out the door to many restaurants, shops and the Duomo a few blocks away. The Arno and Ponte Vecchio is also in walking distance. The rooms were...

Right on the Piazza Santa Maria, a wee walk from the train station. Just around the corner from the Duomo. Fantastic if you go to the lorenzo markets nearby for food and wine and shopping in general. Some quirky stores off the main thoroughfare. Our room overlooked the square, the room was largeish and had nice decor. It was clean...

As we only had a short drive from Chianti to Florence we arrived early. We couldn't drive right to the door of the hotel so parked in the street. The concierge "carried" our luggage (which do have wheels) to the hotel and parked the car for us. I had booked tickets for the Uffizi Gallery so we left our luggage...

Lovely hotel. Excellent location - walking distance to shopping, many restaurants, bus stop and railroad station. Helpful front desk staff. We were upgraded to a nice room with a large deck. High cathedral sloped ceiling with tall windows. The setup of having to take 2 separate elevators far apart from one another to get to our room was different. Next...

I returned to Florence to stay in this hotel a few weeks ago. I had a beautiful room with a view with a very large balcony with spectacular 270 degree views. The room was small but elegant and the bathroom was large with large jacuzzi tub. All in all a wonderful stay with a very warm hospitable staff. Excellent breakfast....

We have just returned from our trip to Florence. Not impressed with city itself, but hotel made up for it. We had a lovely room, junior suite, which was spotlessly clean and overlooking the square. We were worried that it would be noisy, but this was not the case. Staff were most efficient and helpful. Lovely decor throughout. Very good breakfast...

What a lovely hotel in a fantastic location! a 5 minute stroll to the Duomo and right near the Leather Markets. Just a lovely place! It was close to everything but you didnt feel like it was cramped or too bustling - very laid back location. We had a junior suite on the top floor which had a gorgeous view...

We loved this hotel. It is a 2 block walk to the train station, the hop on/off bus, an art museum, designer shops & many restaurants. The staff is helpful. We loved Vinicio, the bar man. He offered wonderful restaurant suggestions, great price shopping spots & interesting conversation. We would stay here again!!

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
