Hotel San Giovanni is a characteristic old worldly Florentine pensione. It is located in the heart of Florence's historical center right on the corner of Piazza San Giovanni (the cathedral square). This superb location means all of city museums, galleries and other tourist attractions are within a short walking distance from the hotel. The hotel is located in two medieval tower buildings that in the 16th century became the bishops private residence. Today it is still possible to see in some of the rooms the original frescos. You will enjoy the amazing view from your window of one the world's most beautiful piazza.

The location of the hotel can only be described as excellent, - in relation to all the big tourist attractions, the longest we had to walk was 20 minutes and that was to the Uffizi Museum. However, its closeness to the Duomo square can also cause problems. Due to the temperature of the room (which was very warm and only a fan to assist) we had to sleep with the windows open, which allowed us to hear the goings on from the street below quite clearly. Each morning we were awoken at 6am by the street cleaners doing their job and sweeping the square, and on occasion in the early morning the shouting/screaming from people on the street below. Apart from the noise, the hotel itself is ok. The rooms are fairly spacious, with ours having a sink and an ill placed mirror. The

My husband and I stayed at Hotel San Giovanni for 4 nights in March of 2010. The room was roomy and comfortable. The bathrooms and showers were right across the hall and we never had a situation where we had to wait to shower. There was a sink in our room, which was nice. The shower water was hot and the rooms and bathrooms were very clean. I was so pleased with this hotel, because the location couldn't be beat. From our window we had a full view of the Duomo- it was 1/2 a block away. Also, for the price you couldn't beat this place. The one problem we had was finding it when we first arrived. We found the building just fine, but we did have to wait for a little bit to get in the front gate. then we weren't sure which level the hotel was on, a sign would have helped. Also, our

We loved our stay here. After carrying our bags in the heat from the train station, walking into the welcome area and our room felt incredibly refreshing. Everyone we talked to was sweet and helpful. The room was surprising big, and the hotel design felt unique and warm, making us feel comfortable the second we walked in. The price was unbeatable (60 euro/night), especially when considering its perfect location, looking across at the Duomo, cafe-lined streets, and traveller-filled square. Also, our room was one of the only with a private bathroom, so if you book ahead, I suggest asking about it (we had room no. 8). I would absolutely recommend Hotel San Giovanni!

We stayed in a quadruple room with two teenagers and had lots of space and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast (extra cost of 5 Euros) was fresh, hot, and tasty and it was nice to have a table in the room. We had great people-watching from our windows over Duomo square and the hotel was walking distance to the museums and the street market and just steps away from the Duomo. The staff were very helpful in getting reservations for us at the Uffizi and Academia and were very friendly in general. We had a private external bathroom across the hall, which was clean and no problem for us. The room is simple and the ceiling could use some paint, but for the price of the room, the value is very good.

This hotel is located in the heart of Florence, and is very convenient when you are out sightseeing. It’s easy to stop by the hotel and use the restroom or grab something. The service was great. The proprietor was very kind and helpful; he helped to make our stay very enjoyable. The restroom is not in your room. We never had to wait and the restrooms were clean, but you are lacking the privacy you would have with your own restroom. You have to be buzzed up to the hotel when you arrive, and take a very quaint elevator up to the second floor. It is not really the second floor, because if you chose to walk the stairs it is more like five flights. This hotel was a great value!

We enjoyed our 3 nights. Our room was spacious and we enjoyed hanging out our window looking the street and plaza. Breakfast was nice and fresh. We used the shared bathrooms. There were enough that they were generally pretty clean and no waiting. Overall, we were happy!

Hotel San Giovanni is more like a hostel, with shared bathrooms and simple but nice rooms. We stayed in a triple room, which was big, with a ceiling fresco, comfortable beds, and simple but tasteful furniture. The staff was very kind and helpful. The shared bathrooms are clean. There was also a washbasin in our room. The location of this hostel is just perfect. You are right in the middle of the center, and our room had a view of the Duomo. For this price, you couldn't get better!

Don't pass this place up! The San Giovani is an extremely clean, airy, and beautiful building right at the Duomo. The location is perfect, and EVERYTHING is within a very short walk. The frescos on the ceilings are very neat, and I liked having a breakfast table in the room. People watching from the giant windows overlooking the plaza was a lot of fun after a long day of art, culture, and food! I would not normally stay anywhere without a private bathroom, (I'm a clean freak) but gave it a shot here, and was totally fine. There were 3 bathrooms, I think, and 4 rooms. The bathrooms are directly across the hall from the rooms, and were always clean. Our host was wonderful when we checked in, and shared a lot of great history about Florence and the plaza. I highly recommend

We stayed at the Hotel San Giovanni for three nights and couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Customer service: The owner was the most courteous and helpful man you could wish to meet. His staff were also incredibly helpful and this helped to make our stay extremely worthwhile. Room: we were given room number 2, this was a light, spacious room and spotlessly clean. Our large double bed was extremely comfortable and was made up each day. Bathroom facilities: the Hotel San Giovanni only has shared facilities as far as I'm aware. These were fine but maybe need upgrading. Location: central to all the main attractions and not too far from the railway station, just perfect. Noise: minimal...note: changes have been made concerning traffic movement / access in Florence.

When you book this place, you have to bear in mind that this is not a luxury hotel! This is a budget hotel (almost like a hostel) that is less than 1 minute walk from the most famous attraction in Florence - the Duomo. The price was great for its convenient location. We stayed here for 2 nights in one of their large rooms for 4 people. The room was very spacious and clean in an old building in which you were free to come and go as you please. Only shared bathroom was available here, and it was not the best but clean and comfortable enough. While there was room service, they didn't give us new towels... so make sure you don't throw your towel on the floor after using it on the first night! If you have a car, they will get someone from a private garage to pick up and drop off in
