My friends and i stayed at Hotel Giglio during our visit to Florence. May i say that Roberto and Marco were very helpful and provided first class service to us. On the last day, we were asking them to help call a taxi to send us to the train station, however Roberto offered to send us instead! Amazing. The hotel...

So many good reviews, and another to add to them. The slight problems of distance from town center and a very firm bed were far outweighed by the attentive, outstanding service by Marco, Roberto and their staff. We booked the superior room and it was clean, comfortable and cool (the A/C does work and you really do control the temp!)....

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. It was in a fairly good location as you could walk to most of the main attractions. I think the main reason we enjoyed it so much was the excellent service we received. We appreciated all the little extras that the owners did for us, such as booking...

This very modest hotel is clean and well-run by a pair of brothers. Sound carries, the bed was rather caved-in, and the nights were chilly, but it was still a good experience. The breakfast was good and though the facilities are old and run down (the tile floors and the lighting are particularly dated), there is a certain charm to...

Marco and Roberto made our start to Italy extremely enjoyable. There is something to be said about personal service, in the States that is something we have lost. My Wife and I had a couple of loose ends to take care of and Marco completly led us through everything with patience. He talked to our next Hotelier and set up...

My travel agent recommended this hotel - after I had spent weeks on end researching properties. We are two women who wanted to stay in a safe and affordable location, but since I travel frequently, I am SUPER picky about where I stay (it has to be nice). Hotel Giglio was everything we were promised and more. When we got...

After reading reviews of the Hotel Giglio in Florence on Trip Advisor, my traveling partners and I decided to stay there during our week stay in that city. It was one of the best decisions of our trip. The Hotel Giglio is a delightful hotel which is well situated within easy walking distance of the center of Florence. We arrived...

On a work -related trip to Italy, my mother and I spent a few days in Florence before and after a private bike tour with Per's Bike Rides of Florence. For one night before the bike tour, and for two nights following the bike trip, we made reservations at Hotel Giglio. This family owned and run hotel provided outstanding service....

We stayed for a total of three nights, and were impressed with the personal service extended to us by Marco and his staff. The room was comfortably sized for our party of three, with an oversized window that overlooked a quaint courtyard. We would have preferred to be located closer to the Duomo -- The hotel is a good fifteen...

The Hotel Giglio is located about 10 minutes from the Santa Maria Novella train station. It is less than a 5 minute walk to the Accademia (Statue of David), 10 minutes to the Duomo, 15 minutes to the Uffuzzi and 25 minutes to the Pitti Palace. Our room, a quad, had 15 foot ceilings and a beautiful large bathroom. Being...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
