Hotel Giglio is an excellent family-run hotel located about 10-15 minutes (walking) from the train station. We enjoyed everything about it: the friendly service, nice breakfast selection, clean, well-kept rooms, and free internet.

We seemed to walk forever to find this hotel after we arrived at the train station. The room was cramped and musty. The staff was friendly and we greatly appreciated the ride to the airport. That was above and beyond. If I had to do it again, I would choose a hotel closer to a main piazza..

Hotel Giglio was a fantastic place to stay in Florence. The staff was more than accommodating. The location was easy to get to from the train station and on a main street to the Duomo, restaurants, flee market, Old Bridge, and Uffizi Gallery. Although it is on a main street, it is far enough down from the hustle and bustle...

My friends and I stayed for several days in June. Roberto, Marco and Luca were gracious hosts, very helpful and accommodating. The hotel is very clean, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are modern. We were about a 15 walk from the centre of Florence which was just perfect (we were able to walk off some of the food...

Having travelled extensively and this being my 3rd trip to Florence, I rate this Hotel very high. We occupied 4 rooms on the 1st August, for only 1 night, but we all vowed if/when we returned to Florence we would only stay at Giglio. A 10 minute walk along Via Cavour and you are at Duomo and virtually most other...

The hotel was nice. I was very tired when we arrived because we drove from Lake Como to Florence. The head man at the hotel Roberto was extremely helpful. He show us a map right away of the city and where to eat, he told us about the hotel and breakfast. Plus free internet awesome. Roberto if you are reading...

We traveled with our teen sons, 15 and 18. We got 4 beds and each one was quite large...not at all cramped. The ceilings were very high and it was like staying in a palae. Service was excellent and we very much enjoyed the breakfast. While located about 6-8 blocks from so many attractions--the Duomo, Ufizzi, etc.--the streets are VERY...

This hotel was a great value for our twelve night stay from July 19-31, 2009. My girlfriend and I were able to see much of Tuscany and we are very grateful to the Hotel Giglio staff, especially brothers Marco and Roberto. Marco and Roberto are owner/managers who greeted us at breakfast each day, helped us Florence newbies to plan our...

Hotel Giglio may be our best hotel experience in decades of traveling. It more than met our primary needs (location, price, cleanliness) with so many extra, thoughtful details: great breakfast with complimentary espresso drinks, restaurant and sightseeing advice, large library of travel info and dvds, etc, etc, etc. Roberto provided maps and directions for a bike ride into the Tuscan...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
