Having not been in Florence since I was in diapers, I did a lot of research on accommodations, looking at at least 10 different hotels. Location is very important and the Grand Hotel Minerva is in a great place. 5 minute walk to The Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore which is the main attraction and 5 minutes walk from...

Great hotel in good location. Great roof top bar and pool. Not great for disabled with limited lift access. Breakfast average American breakfast. Staff reliable and good with local knowledge and advice

Dear Chrissiepc, Thank you for having stayed with us and for your generous evaluation of our hotel and services. I am unsure about your statement regarding lift and disabled persons. Our rooftop is reached by one of our two elevators and it is the same elevator serving the rooms equipped for access with a wheelchair. The rooftop terrace has some...

Right on the Piazza Santa Maria Novella, this hotel is perfectly situated in Florence. It's not directly in the city center, so we found that the food options were better near the hotel, and Florence is such a walkable city that we never felt far from anything. It's also close to the train station which was nice on our last...

From the moment you step into the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella and spy the Grand Hotel Minerva you know you are in for a treat. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that we had a memorable wedding anniversary with an upgrade to their unique suite. It was a room fit for a king and queen and we...

Having lived in the city a few years ago, this hotel has been my all time favourites. The rooms can be spacious and comfortable with beautiful view of the city. I am particularly impressed by the cocktails prepared by members of the bar staff, Lorenzo and Amine. I would definitely return to this hotel again and again.

We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel Minerva. Our room was very nice, but the bathroom was very basic. I think we had one that hadn't been updated. Enjoyed the pool and terrace and location on the Santa Maria novella piazza, which is beautiful. Complimentary breakfast is also really well done.

This was the perfect hotel for us on our visit to Florence. The location was great for walking to all the places we wanted to visit, the hotel has a great feel, and the rooms were spacious, comfortable, and well appointed. The staff here were among the best of those we encountered anywhere in Italy or Switzerland during our most...

We were unlucky, and the reservation to the original hotel was cancelled. However, lucky enough to be transferred to Grand Hotel Minerva. Great service and help, they gave us the last room available. We were pleased to see that Hotel Minerva had an amazing rooftop With pool bar and the most amazing view I have ever seen. The room was...

My mother and I chose this hotel for our first holiday together in 15 years. What a choice! The hotel itself is really easy to locate, just a short walk from the Santa Maria Novella train station in the SMN piazza. This piazza is a little quieter than the other piazza's in Florence with less street sellers and more of...

Beautiful terrace located on the top floor of the Minera Hotel is the perfect place for aperitivo! 12€ for the cocktail of your choice and a selection of aperitivo. The view over Florence is stunning and the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing - a must-do in the city!

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
