We were unlucky, and the reservation to the original hotel was cancelled. However, lucky enough to be transferred to Grand Hotel Minerva. Great service and help, they gave us the last room available. We were pleased to see that Hotel Minerva had an amazing rooftop With pool bar and the most amazing view I have ever seen. The room was... More

My mother and I chose this hotel for our first holiday together in 15 years. What a choice! The hotel itself is really easy to locate, just a short walk from the Santa Maria Novella train station in the SMN piazza. This piazza is a little quieter than the other piazza's in Florence with less street sellers and more of... More

Beautiful terrace located on the top floor of the Minera Hotel is the perfect place for aperitivo! 12€ for the cocktail of your choice and a selection of aperitivo. The view over Florence is stunning and the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing - a must-do in the city!

My daughter and I stayed for two nights in a remarkable, high-ceilinged, fresco adorned chamber. I must say that every little detail in this hotel is charming. We loved the view onto the piazza out our front shuttered window, the bed and its fine linens gave great comfort after a day's sojourn through the magical streets of Florence. Front desk... More

THe Minerva was a terrific place to stay for our 4 days in Florence. The staff is very friendly and indefatigable. The renovation is tasteful. Breakfast is the most varied we enjoyed anywhere. The Art on the walls is interesting, and there is a good sense of place to the Hotel. Service around the pool could be a bit nicer,... More

The rooftop pool makes this hotel special. Not many sun loungers but it's so hot you can sit in pool and enjoy view with a frozen daiquiri. Rooms are very clean and well equipped. Breakfast is adequate.

We just finished a very enjoyable 3 night stay in Florence and the Grand Hotel Minerva. The hotel is in an excellent location. Close to the train station and a short walk to mostly all the other sights...Keep in mind this is a very modern hotel and not a historic "old world charm" kind of property. Having said that the... Two nights here and I am bowled over by this hotel. Staff are great, friendly and knowledgeable (special mention for Alessia on reception), excellent breakfast selection and spotless, comfortable room with very efficient aircon and powerful shower. After a day sightseeing in the heat and crowds, the rooftop pool was a godsend to cool off, lots of people enjoying it... More

We vim have visited Florence many times, and this is the best hotel we stayed in. The majority of the rooms have been renovated to a high standard, well located in the square and easily accessible in and out of Florence. We had a car which is easily parked through the hotel's concierge service, and were able to drive in... More

This was the best place we stayed at in Italy. We travelled for two weeks, stayed at four hotels. Everyone was very friendly. The hotel is in a great area. It is walking distance from train station. It is close to most of the great tourist sites. It is situated in a square that insulates it to a great extent... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
