We stayed in a room with view of the Piazza and would recommend this as the church is so beautiful. The location is fantastic right in the centre and the Hotel a peaceful oasis from the crowds in Florence when we visited just before Easter. Breakfast was excellent with an array of delicious choices in the buffet. We came into...

We spent two nights at the Grand Minerva, coming from Rome and before departing for Venice. I booked a premium triple room and was told that we were being upgraded to a junior suite on the 5th floor (hotel has 6 floors). Despite being a junior suite this was the smallest of the rooms we stayed in during our Italy...

Dear Rojk19, thank you for having stayed with us and for you detailed review. I hope you want to accept apologies for all inconvenience: This is something very much below our standard. At the same time I would say that you saw this person at work elsewhere, it was one of our maintenance engineers: the general pass to rooms is...

Very centrally located by Piazza Santa Maria Novella and only 2 min. walk to the train station, 7 min. walk to Il Duomo. The hotel is lovely decorated with comfortable newly refurbished rooms. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic, also the staff there. We tried the restaurant of the hotel, La Buona Novella Bistrot which...

We are so glad we chose the Grand Hotel Minerva for our first visit to Florence. Everything about our stay was first class. On arrival we were upgraded to a spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable deluxe room overlooking the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. Breakfast was chosen from a wide variety of delicious, well-presented, fresh food. All members of staff we...

We stayed here on our Honeymoon and couldn't be happier. The location being right on the Piazza Santa Maria Novella Square was just jaw dropping. There was so much to do within walking distance so no car rental needed. There were plenty of restaurants around to choose from but what made the hotel so great were their employees. We were...

We stayed at the beginning of April for 2 nights as a surprise trip for a special occasion, we booked two rooms and fell in love with the hotel & its location. We arrived in Pisa and took the Pisa Mover to the central train station. The PisaMover is relatively new and a shuttle monorail between the airport and train...

Location, location, location! Yes it's in a great spot but that's not all you get at this wonderful facility. Beautiful renovated rooms, our favorite bathroom of any European hotel we've ever stayed at. Food service was excellent. Great breakfast selections. We didn't go the restaurant but it was very nice. Just too many others right around the hotel that were...

Great location, but what really makes this hotel is the service and the quality of the rooms. I had a junior suite, which was incredibly spacious, with a lovely bathroom and bedroom. The breakfast is one of the better ones I had in Italy as well. Only two things to note: - the rooms are not equipped with proper desks,...

Dear Caroline B, Thank you very much for having stayed with us. I am glad that our services have contributed to a nice stay in Florence. For the benefit of our mutual readers I will add some notes. As to desk in the rooms: the hotel is not at all standardized and every room (also in the same room category)...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
