The hotel was at a short distance from the railway station and the staff was friendly. The room was big enough for me and the breakfast was perfect. The AC worked well and cooled down my room. The bathroom was also big enough. The room design was poor but I didn't care. Could stay here again if I visit Florence.

I stayed here last week for two nights with my kids. Great location, near all the main sites and train station. Restaurants everywhere you turn! Room was clean, quiet and big enough for us and luggage. The free breakfast was yummy with a lot of choices. The staff helped with train questions we had and we had wifi in our...

Very good location, hotel itself situated in an authentic building which definitely has a certain charm. Staff generally friendly. My room was very spacious and clean. All these positives could not compensate for the dated furniture and bathroom and old and noisy A/C. Windows let all traffic noise resonating loud in the narrow street in. Breakfast mediocre even to Italian...

We stayed here four nights. The room we had faced the internal light void, and was very quiet. Excepting that at about 5:15am the clean linen obviously arrives and gets packed away and the noise certainly woke us every morning. The free wifi reception was at its limit in that room - 101 often sitting on one bar and if...

We stayed at the Hotel Unicorno for 3 nights in April. It is at a walking distance from the railway station. Also, most of the tourist attractions in Florence are nearby, including the Duomo. The hotel is maintained well, rooms are very clean and of decent size. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast has a decent spread too.

I stayed there during Pitti Uomo (June 2016), when hotel prices explode in Florence. As I had booked my room some months ago, price was correct (around 180€/night). Location is perfect, at 7 minutes from the train station and 10 minutes on foot from Piazza della Signoria. My room was quite big, not too noisy despite on the 1st floor...

Hotel Unicorno has a great location, very central and only a few minutes walk to the leather markets etc. We stayed for 5 nights and were overall pretty happy with the hotel. The room is clean and the staff are very friendly. When we first arrived we were given a map and told of all the different things we should...

The hotel is superbly located near train station and easy walking distance around the city. The room we were in was very dated and the bed was uncomfortable with just a sheet on offer and no duvet. I was also bitten a lot by mosquitoes and air con wasn't working so unfortunately a bad night but I may have just...

Now, I had to give this a high rating due to how our visit panned out. Be warned, the rooms are widely varied. I booked a standard double and, although the bedroom was 'fine' it was tired. The bathroom however wasn't 3 star. It had a shower over the toilet with no way of even putting soap/shampoo down! I'm not...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
