Read the reviews and thought it looked good, but thought we might be sacrificing a bit in order to stay close to the train station. We did not sacrifice a thing. Check in was efficient after a quick walk from the train station. The quad room we shared as a family of 4 with a mother, a father and 2... More

We arrived from the railway station to the Hotel Alba which was a 5 minute walk and were very happy with the accommodation. Nice and close to the centre of where we wanted to be and their breakfast that was included the next morning was fantastic.

We spent 9 nights here in October, and everything about our stay was wonderful. The very helpful staff felt like family after a few days. They were always able to give great advice, regardless of what we were looking for. The location is really great. A block from Santa Maria Novella train station (with shopping mall underneath!) and from Santa... More

This is a nice hotel in an area close to the railway station and the arno river. The rooms are small but perfect for the single traveller. Wifi is good all over the hotel and free. Breakfast buffet is extensive.

Alba Palace is walking distance from the train station and to the central shopping area. We were warmly welcomed and very pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of a family room. Breakfast included pastries, fruit, cheese and salami, eggs, bacon, cereal, juices and tea and coffee. Each afternoon we enjoyed the complimentary afternoon tea served in the lobby. We would... The hotel is centrally located and close to train station so it's convenient for that. The beds were hard as rock and the bathrooms quite small with a peculiar smell. The showers very small. The air conditioner didn't work or that big thing in the ceiling was only for heat. It was hot at night and with the windows open... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
