We took the children (twin girls, aged 9) for a city break over the October half term. The hotel location is pretty good - a short walk from the railway station and a little further from the Duomo and the centre of town. Florence isn't large so you can walk everywhere without too much trouble. The hotel is, as other... More

Large family group, there were 11 of us, stayed here for a long weekend. If you don't like shabby chic then this isn't for you. It is a beautiful building but does not scream luxury hotel. It is clean and comfortable with excellent modern bathrooms and is full of old world charm. Plethora of clean towels and free toiletries. Lots... More

Lovely oldie world hotel about 3minute walk from the station and about the same to the duomo so very handy. Friendly, helpful staff, good breakfast and very clean. Plumbing not too modern but adequate. Only gripe is that the dining room isn't quite big enough so we had to queue for breakfast. No big deal. Although it was too cold to... More

This hotel is a location in Florence and a very good value. The rooms were spacious compared to others in Italy. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was so so- mainly cold options. There was a elevator but was small and slow- mainly used to carry your baggage. Be prepared to walk up. If looking for an inexpensive option in... More

The property is an old palace set in a superb location . Our room was smaller than I had anticipated but perfectly adequate. The hotel is in need of modernisation though this would have to be done so sensitively not to ruin the charm of the building . I really enjoyed the place . Super location for all major sites. Staff... More

It's really close to the central station,I order room with smoking allowed, room was nice, like old school ,province stile, but hotel really old,it was some stains in blanket of my bed ,but if you coming to sleep just there it's ok,a lot of restaurants and cafe where you can eat,and for 108€ for 2 nights it's really good price

I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of October as a solo traveller. I had a small single room which whilst small had everything I needed. My room was at the back of the hotel and looked over a busy road which had a lot of traffic noise throughout the day and night. However the central location is... More

It might be a place lacking some sort of a face-lift but it conveys a beautiful atmosphere of yesteryear. And this is exactly what makes it unique and so charming. This former 18th century palace provides a wonderful opportunity to share the brilliant history of Florence. The breakfast room is laid under a ceiling full of original paintings and opens... More

This hotel is very clean but outdated. The hotel staff were great, they found out we were on our honeymoon and brought us a bottle of champagne. Our room was very spacious which was nice but was on the Main Street, which the ambulances use as their main way to the hospital which made it very noisy at night.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
