Donatello's place is a nice place to stay in Florence. Very cozy, clean and comfortable, with good location. Breakfast served by Donatello was one of the best we ever had), also his recommendations regarding restaurants, places to visit and food and wines to try were very valuable. Thank you for everything! We could not have found a better place for bed and breakfast than with Donatello. He hopped off his scoother and greeted us with his open and friendly smile. It was a good beginning. Our Sliver Suite was large and it's ceilings were tall giving an impression of even more space. The silver touch was creative genius! Breakfasts were delicious...

My sister and I stayed in a Gold Suite at The Black Sheep Bed and Breakfast for 3 nights. I must say that the rooms there are awesome, with lots of creativity and considerate thoughts for the occupant's comfort! Like what it says on its website, it is conveniently located in Florence's historic centre within walking distance from all the...

We are a family of four (2 teenagers) doing a month haul in Europe. My wife chose this place by it's quirky name and after reading the reviews and seeing the piccies we were eagerly awaiting our stay. It was worth the wait. The best accommodation of our whole month on the continent. Although our current digs in Rome give...

This place has everything that you might need for a wonderful vacation in Florence! Located at the very center, it is very close to all main attractions. Rooms are beautiful, specially decorated with lots of style and artistic touch! At some point you feel like you are in a museum :). Breakfast was wonderful as well, served each morning by...

Heaven because its up 52 steps and because its so uplifted from its surrounds. We wanted somewhere close to Santa Maria Novella station for both arrival and departure and selected the Black Sheep from Trip Advisor recommendations. How on the money they were! We experienced a little difficulty in finding the place at first and I suggested a slight improvement...

Stayed for two nights in early March 2014. 2 minutes from train station. The charming host, Donatello, was waiting for us and made us feel welcome and gave us some genuine recommendations and insider tips for making the most of our Florence visit. Provided a thorough breakfast and a good chat each morning. Decor is super cool and location is...

Although the street access is nondescript, packed with people and loud the upstairs location and interior rooms make for a quiet convenient stay near the main train station in Firenze. Easy quick walk from the train station then, after dropping your bags, great access to the city. Donatello is a charming and informative host who insists on making you whatever...

Like so many things in life, first impressions of this place will mislead you. The door is small, tucked next to some unimpressive businesses. But Donatello has created a very comfortable and spacious retreat here, so convenient to the train station and the heart of Florence that you'll never need a cab. And Donatello himself is, like the other reviewers...

At first the place may appear unassuming, but as you enter the apartment, you are welcome by a spacious, well lit, modern living space. The location, service and rooms are quite simply outstanding. But the biggest surprise for the guest is the Donatello, the laid-back, generous and helpful host. It is always a pleasure to meet somebody who obviously loves...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
