We were in Florence for a wedding and booked this hotel on a recommendation from the Mother of the Bride. It is a great little 3 star! It is part of a group of hotels owned by the same company that are all on the Piazza SMN. Breakfast is 3 euro but it is quite extensive for a European breakfast...

Florence was our second stop in Italy and we stayed here for 4 nights. We had a large room with a queen bed and a single. The hotel appears to have been remodeled in the past few years as everything seemed fresh and updated. The room was quite large and the bathroom was larger than anything we stayed at in...

Wow! - We were blown away by this little trendy hotel smack in the middle of Florence. Massive curtains to cut the afternoon sun (it was 39 degrees outside but it didn't affect us), a wonderful view and the most helpful staff. I am coeliac and asked the receptionist for a recommendation for dinner, he made a phone call, sent...

After a 37 hour trip door to doorfrom Sydney, Australia the hotel was both a welcome relief and surprise. The hotel is a short walk from the train station. The staff were friendly and efficient, they even made us tea and coffe late one night when we came back from dinner. Rooms have enough space but bathroom has very tiny...

Hotel Rosso23 was, as many said before, not so easy to find on the square, but we managed to find it (by car....). Check in was fast, personnel was very friendly and helpful and the valet parking was very easy and good value for money (30 euro per day). Daniele helped us out with reservation for Michelangelo's David, reservations for...

We stayed here for 2 nights in June. We had a huge room that overlooks the piazza. The rooms were gorgeous, so spacious and super clean. Very modern and trendy and the bed was really comfortable and we had a great sleep. There was some noise from the Piazza of a night time but didn't take us long to get...

We found Hotel Rosso 23 on booing.com. Its in a square minutes away from the main train station of Florence. Its clean and not too expensive for a florence hotel. The staff were all very helpful. Breakfast was Italian style but there was plenty. Tea and fresh capuccino were brought on request. All in all this was a very good...

The piazza the hotel is on is around quite a few other upmarket hotels, as well as a couple of bars and restaurants, and a wonderfully pretty Church. The piazza is a few minutes walk from the Duomo and the centre of Florence. Lots of wonderful bars and restaurants in nearby streets. Couldn't really get a better location! The hotel...

We used this simply as a base to head out to Tuscany, which it was perfect for. (definitely visit Sienna, in fact i would stay there for a few nights) Location and value for money is great. I found locating the right hotel in Florence was difficult. For the price most things seemed shabby or poorly located. But this was...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
