This hotel can be forgiven much due to the spectacular views offered and its location in the beautiful hilltop town of Cortona.
Staff were friendly and helpful explaining the air conditioning, negotiating local taxis and providing electrical plugs.
Why this hotel does not have a bar is a mystery as it has a superb breakfast room and terrace with panoramic views. There is good restaurant next door (Il Tonino) but it is a separate business and concentrates on customers dining there.

Lovely hotel with stunning views. A little confusing because reception was on the top floor, and rooms were below - totally logical given the landscape.
Restaurant was very good.
Breakfast service staff were very accommodating.
My delayed luggage was received by the hotel after my departure. They contacted our tour leader and hotel staff delivered my luggage to me in Florence the same day! That's customer service!

We have been here before and we have also tried other hotels in Cortona.
As I was struggling with a big suitcase the man from the reception came running to help. My husband was parking the car after letting me off outside the hotel. The parking was free and with an escalator up to the hotel.
We got a very nice room with wonderful view . Nice furniture and nice bed. The bath was a bit small but nice enough.
The breakfast room had a marvellous view and the service was very nice and friendly.
The location of the hotel can not be better.
A missed the main restaurant of the hotel that were not in use. The memories of the beautiful made up tables, service and food, from before still is in my main.
This time the restaurant had a nice view, but everything was made much simpler than before. I do hope they will go back to the main restaurant.
Everything else was just as we wanted and we will visit again!

The views from the hotel are unprecedented and the staff at the reception is very professional and helpful. However, the experience was ruined by the unbelievable rudeness of the breakfast service people. From the moment you enter the room, they make you feel unwelcome and, weirdly, are constantly watching how much food you’re taking. They also scolded us for taking a small yogurt to our room, but afterwards we accidentally saw the waitress packing croissants into her purse after the service - obviously to take home. Overall, it’s a shame that such a nice hotel has such unacceptable breakfast service. We were thinking of coming back , but after this experience San Luca is not on our list any longer. This is the worst service we have ever encountered with meals in a hotel.

My husband stayed one night in this hotel as part of a tour. It's basically a nice looking place, very close to the heart of Cortona. Our room offered a nice view, and had all of the essentials. The room was pretty tiny, and didn't have the most comfortable mattress. The bathroom was really small, too.

Breakfast offered an array of choices, and spectacular views. However, it was a bit of a free for all. The elevators were tiny, and inconvenient. I think this hotel offers good basic accommodations, but it could probably use a remodeling. I don't know how easy that would be, given its location.

Normally I wouldn’t give a five star review for a hotel like San Luca. It is a little dated and the breakfast a tad sparse. But it is all about the wonderful views and the great location with this hotel. Staff were friendly, my room clean (if a little dated) and overall great value for money.

After staying in some tiny rooms at the beginning of our trip, this hotel was nice. Rooms were clean, bathrooms nice and we didn't have one of the coveted view rooms, it overlooked a small courtyard. This hotel has an institutional feel but the view from their deck is spectacular. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good also. Only complaint is our room was under the dining room on the fourth level and there was quite a bit of noise until 11pm. When booking, first ask for a view room and not get room 50 like we had. Parking can be a challenge when you arrive on market day, Saturday but we were able to find some eventually. Location is superb for walking into the city also.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in September 2004. Ours was room 57, at the end of a hallway so that we had a sidelong view of the outside of Cortona and the countryside below. Rooms that face front have spectacular views, and others look out back toward the town wall. The hotel is large and modern, and caters to tour groups and small conventions (a group of physical therapists was there while we were staying), which can be a small problem if you try to eat breakfast at the same time as the group or arrive just after they have left the breakfast area). Overall the hotel is comfortable and convenient to the city and to parking, and has a wonderful view of the countryside, but it has little "charm." The desk staff are very friendly and helpful and speak good English. Our room was well furnished but somewhat cramped, with adequate closet space. The bed was firm and comfortable. The bathroom, like most, was small with not much shelf space and with a tub shower that was somewhat awkward to use and that had a shower curtain with a sagging rod that made it difficult to keep closed. The breakfast bar has a spectacular view over the countryside, and the breakfast buffet is excellent, with coffee, meats, yoghurt, cereal, pastry, fruit. Although just outside the town walls, the hotel is just at the foot of the main walking street for shops and restaurants. All in all, we recommend the San Luca, but not for convenience rather than charm.

We just returned from a Duke University Tuscay Tour arranged by Alumni Holidays' International. AHI uses the Hotel San Luca as the base for this tour. The hotel was marvelous! Our food, provided by the hotel's famous restaurant Tonino, was outstanding. The staff was always courteous, helpful, and spoke English. The front desk clerk even provides walking maps to Bramasole, home of Frances Mayes, author of Under the Tuscan Sun. The rooms are small by US standards, but the expected size for Europe or Manhattan. The rooms smelled great and were spotless. The towels were thick and the soap abundant. Our view from the balcony of Room 62 was awesome. The hotel is upside down with guest rooms starting on floor 4. Rooms on 4 have better views than those on 5 or 6 (the bottom floor). The hotel's location off the main street of Cortona makes everything easy to walk to and Cortona was our favorite hill town in Tuscany. We had a Five Star experience.

The Hotel San Luca was excellent! The rooms were lovely and relatively large. The personnel were very helpful, though that varied with the particular person. The breakfast buffet was also very fine with a large variety of breakfast foods. The location was superb for exploring Tuscany. The restaurant on the premises was wonderful. We would absolutely look forward to staying there again.

Our balcony was the entire width of the room and deep enough for you to place chairs. Our countryside view was to the south. You may want to specify that in your booking request. I do not recall what our room number was.

Dear Madam, We have no private parking but you can arrive with the car in front of the hotel to unload your luggage and there are some public parking not too far. There's a big one free and quiet below the square where the hotel is. From there, it is possible to reach the square in front of the hotel via escalators.
