The swimming pool is large and overlooks the beautiful bay with Mount Etna in the background. Sunbeds are plentiful and you don’t need to get up early to reserve one. There are 58 steps down to the pool from the hotel so be aware if you are less mobile. Lovely bar/ cafe by the pool selling drinks and lunch.
The hotel is old fashioned with high ceilings and paintings on the walls but this adds to its charm. The carpets in the lobby are dated but this didn’t put us off and all the staff are very friendly we found including the waiters and cleaning maids.
Our sea view room had fantastic views of the bay and Etna in the background and was clean. There was a safe and fridge but no tea making facilities. Air con was excellent in the room and the WiFi was okay in all areas apart from the pool. Our room was nice but seemed quite small and if you can afford it I would go for a larger deluxe sea view which has arm chairs and much more room. Breakfast was nice with choice of scrambled eggs and bacon as well as cereals, croissants , fruit etc.
The 3 course evening meal was delicious and the menu changed each night and you could choose from 4 courses.
The bar in the evening was very quiet as everyone I think walks into Taormina and enjoys the vibrant bars here. We visited the beautiful garden next door to the hotel which had music playing one night in the evening. We also visited the amphitheater which is well worth a visit (12 euros entry). We walked to the Fenicular cable car which takes you down to a nice beach and worth a visit too.
I would return to this hotel again.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. Yes the carpets in the hallways are in need of replacement as everyone says, but the building itself is stunning. Marble hallways, high ceilings, oil paintings and sculptures dotted around.
We did 4 nights here half board, with buffet breakfast and 3 course dinner included (drinks not included). The breakfast buffet was ample, the dinner was lovely and quiet with table service and a rotating daily menu.
I noticed people said the staff were rude in other reviews but we couldn't disagree more. The front desk staff were efficient and polite, the maids were diligent and friendly and the restaurant/bar staff were actually lovely.
I think if you treat staff with respect, they will respect you too. Simple really.
We only had one gripe with the place and that related to having to find out various bits of info by asking instead of there being a guide in the room or a handout to read. We had to find out when dinner/breakfast was, what the pool hours were, towel situation, how drinks were charged (room tab), all by asking rather than reading it in a guide.
Shout out to Andrea in the restaurant and Davide in the bar, both lovely gents who couldn't have done more for us if they tried.
We had a garden view room and it was very nice, cleaned daily and was spotless. They really keep the whole place clean, that was very notable as there was no dirt, no stains, no spills, they run a tight ship.
The location is directly next to a lovely garden park and opposite a roman amphitheatre, with a 5 minute walk to the main thoroughfare of the town (uphill). It is very quiet, well staffed and located.
The views from the restaurant and pool were wonderful, with a direct and clear view of the coastline north towards naxos and etna.
The pool was clean, pretty and warm and we didn't once have to fight for a sunbed as despite being fully booked, there was plenty available at any point during the day, staff are at the pool between 9 and 6.
I cannot fault the place, the rustic decor (which I believe is deliberate choice) has a certain charm, there is a historical significance to the place if you take the time to read the plaque outside the front of the hotel, and understand that guided tours of the town stop at the hotel to take in the history and views (not intrusive).
All in all, I would happily return to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone who is able to handle steps, but that can be said of taormina in general, not just this hotel.

Yes the carpets on the stairs are a bit worn.
But the grandure of the hotel is undeniable from the view of mount Etna (spectacularly erupting at night - no need for a trip, the view from the balcony was spectacular) and the bay to the bar and restaurant.
The staff were very friendly and no problems with the front desk.
The maid service was incredible, all beds and towels changed daily (not sure about the impact on the environment) .
You have to be fairly fit in Taormina as it feels like one big hill, but you get used to it.
We were there for the film festival and there were nightly free concerts in the gardens next door.
The situation of the hotel is slightly away from the main drag, but this was heaving, we eat mostly at local restaurants, all of which were of high quality and then a naughty ice cream on the way home!
The wine is expensive but you get what you pay for.
All in all one of the best holidays we have had and when we do go back to Taormina, we will stay at this hotel again.

Our experience at this hotel was an absolute nightmare. We planned our trip a year in advance, booking two rooms with balconies for six people. When we arrived, the receptionist was extremely rude and tried to cram us all into one room without a balcony.
The nightmare continued when we entered our room to find the concierge struggling to turn on the lights and air conditioning, only for the power to keep tripping out. He explained we needed to push a button none of us could reach to reset it. This is not what we expected from a four-star hotel!
As we unpacked, we found ants all over the beds. We called to report the issue and were told someone would come to check it out. We’re still waiting! The power cut out twice while we were in the shower, which was extremely dangerous and scary as the shower is in a small bathtub. We couldn't see how to get out safely. Despite our pleas for help, the staff was unresponsive and unhelpful.
When the power went out again and my daughter slipped trying to get out of the bathtub, I insisted they move us to another room. They offered us a tiny, disgusting room not even big enough for one suitcase, let alone three!
Attempting to cool off at the pool, we asked for towels and were told to wait 20 minutes. An hour later, we were still waiting and were rudely dismissed when we asked again. We then tried to go to the private beach, which was part of our booking, only to be told we could only have two umbrellas for our six-person group. After all we had been through, they couldn't even arrange an extra umbrella!
This hotel is terrible and outdated. The carpets are stained, the furniture is falling apart, and the beds are full of ants! The only redeeming features are the view (which you can get anywhere in Taormina) and the lovely cleaning staff. Please think very carefully before booking here. They ruined our experience of Taormina and our long-overdue family holiday. We wouldn’t even send our worst enemy to this terrible place

The room is small and not much spa e for 2 people to place their belongings, the bathroom is not bad, The hotel is terrible if you can't do steps or walk on inclines. They don't have extra railings if you would need it for support, the location is not bad, just not great.
The breakfast is mi Italian, no hot cereal, lots of cakes, but not great fruit etc, they don't clean off the tables quickly, there is a lovely view in the breakfast room, but they play loud hip hop, not nice Italian music. The other views are okay but missing the volcano in most cases.
I really do not like it here, our usual hotel here was booked.

We stayed here for 2 nights, so, firstly the accommodation. We were on the first floor and although a little dated, the room was comfortable and large enough not to be falling over suitcases. We had a fridge, safe, hair dryer and free wi-fi. The bathroom was a reasonable size with a good shower.
Being on the side of a hill, the hotel floor levels ranged from 3 to minus 4 (where the pool was), with the hotel being a bit of a rabbit warren. Access to the pool was not that simple. A lift would take you down to minus 2 level and although there was a lift to minus 4 level, it was purely a service lift. So, from minus 2 level, there was a fairly lengthy walk along paths and downstairs to the pool. The pool was 3 metres deep at the deep end, it had showers and toilets and a bar; towels were complimentary and the view was magnificent.
Breakfast was served in an obvious ballroom (part of the conference amenities offered) and was average, with a high concentration of cakes and pastries and no orange juice. Staff there always appeared a little harassed.
In terms of location, it was only a 5 - 10 minute walk into the town, with many restaurants and cafes easily reached.
Food was excellent and served in a stunning dining room. Not sure how people thought the breakfast was limited as there was a broad buffet of good quality products. Evening meals were very Italian, of good quality with a menu that changed every day.
The pool area was beautiful, but you need to be able to manage steps to get to it.
The hotel is built into the hill side, so is not suitable for those in wheelchairs as there does not appear to be disabled access.
The gardens of the hotel and the park next door are well kept.
The only slight gripe I had is that the carpets in lobbies and corridors could do with updating and only one key per room limits what you can do. Some investment in new technology would benefit the staff’s ability to do their jobs, particularly in the dining room. A fully purposed bar would also be an improvement, although the gentleman who serves the drinks does his best.
All-in-all a very good holiday.
