The Royal Hotel is a four star hotel in the centre of Catania with 19 rooms. The rooms are positioned on three different levels. Each room is named after either an important Sicilian person or period of Sicilian history. The first floor is dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini. A world-renowned composer, born in Catania, and author of noted works like La Norma. The same Norma lends her name to our most beautiful suite. This suite boasts beautiful vaulted ceilings where, following a meticulous and complex restorative project, we were able to maintain the original frescoes, painted in the 18th century. The frescoes are not the only unique features of this suite, which could more accurately be called a royal apartment. It is almost 50m2 and has a fabulous bathroom, like something directly from the fabled Arabian Nights. The second floor is home to the rooms dedicated to Magna Grecia (Latin for "Greater Greece"): a very important period in the history of the city of Catania. The third floor is dedicated to Giovanni Verga. This author brought the name of Catania and of Sicily into the lives of many around the world with his historical novels, names that are kept alive today in names of the rooms of our hotel. All rooms are equipped with LCD monitor, WiFi, and a control panel for the electronic adjustment of lights, but most importantly they are very spacious. The Superior rooms boast either a splendid four-poster bed or a private terrace. One of the Superior rooms has a private access to the rooftop terrace with the possibility to book the exclusive use of the Solarium and the Jacuzzi. The Suites are particularly ample with separate, clearly defined living and sleeping quarters. The Suites also offer a relaxing shower with water massage.

The hotel is in a great location. Try to get a room off the street which is very noisy. It is worth checking to see if the bar and restaurant are open. They close in October and we were disappointed as they looked like fun.

This hotel's location is perhaps its saving grace. At first things seem fine, modern electronic keys, clean well-equipped bathroom etc but then one finds little things. The balcony doors are difficult to open. the shower door is stuck, The loo doesn't stop flushing. The

The hotel is situated in the ehart of old catania, and has charming rooms , but in my case the negligence in terms of upkeep (electrical stuff mostly) detracted from the charm. Also the step to get on the platform of the bed is a kind of dangerous when getting up in the dark.

Location is perfect. Comfortable public areas. Very good breakfast in amazing terrace with great atmospheric view. The room was dusty. Bedroom dirty with leftovers of hygiene items in the shower area and waste bin. At my request just to remove garbage from the waste bin,

Kind Guest, thank you for your question. Besides the rollaway beds, which may be too tiny for your son, our hotel has some double rooms with an extra regular single bed. Please, do not hesitate to contact us directly to book the room that fits your needs the most. Best regards, Hotel Royal Staff

My room overlooked the city (opposite direction of street) and had access to a small rooftop terrace. My general impression was that each room really is different, this being due to the fact that the entire hotel is situated in an old palace, i.e. erected before people thought that way. My general impression was that street-facing room will not have a lot of noise from the street due to traffic (not a through street); however, there may be some noise from the restaurant/party crowd as several nearby places have outside eating areas. Overall, my impression was that the place was reasonably quiet (no weddings while I was there).

The water was approximately a 20 minute walk, but I am not sure I would call it a "beach". We went in March so it was a little cold to be thinking of the beach. We were in Taromina and the beaches were lovely, albeit a bit rocky. Enjoy your trip!
