Wow! What a hotel, really lush without being stuffy. Friendly staff, great room, what more can I say. Loved the breakfast especially the fact that everything was on the table for you, no getting up and going to the buffet, very civilised. Do arrive by boat or you will never find it. I recommend the shared water taxi from the...

This is perhaps the only hotel available that is NOT chintz, polished brass and renaissance sculptures; the usual Venetian motifs. It's by contrast a sublimely contemporary place - all black wood and dark alcoves. The 'look' is followed through right down to the staff uniforms and toiletries. It's very well done. So, firstly, if you arrive on foot and you...

Perfect romantic break. Beautiful setting on the Grand Canal. Impeccable staff and service, plus breakfast was a triumph! Only complaint would be one day the bar was closed which was a shame, but it meant we went and found some lovely local wine-bars instead so hardly a bad point! The water taxi is a must - very glad we read...

What a great hotel. Just back from a three night break. Everything you hear is true. Stunning hotel. Great bar. Lovely staff. Hard to find by foot. That's part of the Venice experience, so get used to it. Make sure you arrive by water taxi. Yes it's expensive, but you all know that already...

We've just spent three nights here and it was wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to come away for a romantic retreat in a stylish environment. However, the hotel has good and bad points, as listed below: Good points - good location; situated close to Rialto and on the grand canal, very attentive and polite staff, decor throughout...

This thoughtfully designed hotel gives you a feeling of comfortable luxury and escape as soon as you step through the door. Its location is also convenient for all your strolls through this picturesque city, and though the enchanting canals will have you heading out the door, you will also look forward to returning to the comforts of this fine boutique...

Just spent a long weekend at Barbargio and it was great. The rooms are decorated in a nice modern fashion, simple yet stylish. Breakfast was good, and bar was lovely looking over the canal. Nice quiet, small hotel and staff were very attentive if needing anything. Its tucked away and a good base to explore the island.

Take the best parts of Venice, great staff, modern decor, location, and you have the Palazzo Barbarigo. As mentioned in other reviews the breakfast is above par, and served until 11. While the bathrooms are somewhat small they are very efficiently designed with a nice rain shower. The concierge was very helpful and made several reservations for us, called for...

We stayed her a couple of years ago, and I thought I'd left a review, but hadn't. Just want to say what a fantastic time we had here. We were in a ground floor room on the corner, with windows on each side - it was Venetian, and it was beautiful. Would thoroughly recommend arriving and departing by water taxi...

Just got back from a 3 day stay at this beautiful hotel.......I paid a little bit extra based on the pictures and reviews on here....and I'm glad I did. It is tucked out of the way a little but....we decided to arrive via the bus on the river.....but in fairness this hotel is only a 15 minute walk away from...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
