Awesome from top to bottom. the team who own/run the hotel are the friendliest imaginable and make your stay feel somewhere between a friend's apartment and a super helpful concierge service. the suite at the top of the hotel was perfect, the streets quiet. its got the best bar you could ask for that has just opened - very friendly,...

We count ourselves very lucky that we found this delightful hotel for our first visit to Venice. Situated in its own garden, on a small canal, picturesque bridges and narrow lanes, it is only about 5 minutes away from the Grand Canal, the Traghetto and the Vaporettos, let alone the romantic Gondalas. It is close to the Frari, which is...

My Mum and I came to stay here for a weekend visit. We were amazed by how quiet it was despite being in a central location. We particularly enjoyed breakfast in the beautiful garden. Our room was a great size and everything so beautifully presented - a much-needed place to rest after sight-seeing around Venice. The staff were very friendly...

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel in mid-May. We had reserved a junior suite which was situated on the second floor overlooking the garden. The room size was more than adequate for 2 people with a lot of luggage. We were disappointed the a/c hadn't been turned on yet b/c they had not officially changed over from heat to...

My husband and I stayed at Oltre Il Giardino for five nights in early April. Our visit was a pleasure in every way. The hotel is a small, tranquil oasis in the heart of Venice. Our rooms were large and comfortable, with a beautiful, spacious bathroom. Breakfasts were varied and delicious, and tables were available in the garden. Lorenzo, Manuel,...

Could not honestly fault this place from the first welcoming email I received to the friendly welcome we arrived. The rooms were amazing and tranquil (no garish bedsheets or wallpaper), all neutral and relaxing). Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and breakfast was amazing. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Fabulously located yet away from all the business so nice and...

My husband and I stayed here for four nights while we were in Venice and loved it. The staff is all so welcoming and friendly and with only 6 rooms we met some very nice guests at breakfast each morning. Breakfast was huge and very good. Staff was always willing to give suggestions for meals or help with directions. My...

This is an elegant, peaceful converted house central enough to walk to the major sights but incredibly quiet and almost hidden by its wall and gardens. Warm hosts who are friendly and knowledgeable about the city and fantastic breakfast - we have had the best break here.

Stayed here for 4 nights in October 2015, our second stay at this property. As others have stated, this is a family run b&b rather than a luxurious 5-star hotel, however everything was close to perfect again - the friendly reception, the spacious and comfortable room, the tasty breakfast, the central but quiet location. The bedroom on the first floor...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The house, which once belonged to Alma Mahler, the composer's widow who lived there in the 1920's, lies next to a small canal just a stone’s throw from the Church of the Frari, has now been turned into an exclusive but homely retreat. This enchanting place in the hearth of Venice offers something unique to those visiting the city. Our guests will feel that they have really found a home away from home. ... more   less
