My wife and I stayed two nights in Venice at this cultural center which previously was used as an orphanage. It was clean, quiet and affordable. Breakfast was more than ample and tasty. Service at the front desk was pleasant and competent.

This hotel is a very spacous hotel with large, clean rooms, modern bathrooms and shining floors and hallways. It is very peaceful and quiet ,a place you can meditate in. The staff is great and helpful and professional. The breakfast is more than adequate and tasteful; but most of all, it has the best location in Venice. Only a walking distance...

Don’t let the “monastery” tag fool you. Once you get into the building you would think you are in any modern hotel. The rooms are well appointed. Very clean and spacious. The check-in & checkout procedure was efficient, the staff very friendly and helpful. The location may not be what a honeymoon couple would look for as there is no...

Although we booked this stay through a convent/monastery booking service, this is far from being either. It has been recently renovated with amenities to match most contemporary hotels. It was easy to reach via the vaporetto from the Santa Lucia train station. Once you arrive at the Zaterre stop, you'll find the monumental facade of the Church of Gesuati just...

They took us in when the Galleria, just down the street, would not honor our reservation. The rooms were simple but spacious, with bathrooms en suite. There is wi-fi when it works, for a fee. Breakfasts were just fine, and you can take your food into the courtyard and enjoy the morning light. Transportation from the airport is easy via...

We loved Venice and stayed at the Don Orione after coming off the Queen Victoria cruise ship. I was looking for cheaper accommodation and checked our the monastery / convent options. Was delighted to come across this one and was sold on it as it looked so clean (and dust-free - important as my daughter has dustmite allergy), without being...

Don't let the category religious place fool you - this is one modern hotel! They had completely renovated the place that it contains state-of-the-art lighting, fixtures, etc. I liked that the hotel is located away from the hub of things. It was quiet, very clean, and spacious. The room that was given to us (there were 3 of us) was...

Excellent location and stay at Don Orione. The rooms are large sized and clean. No TV but this does not seem necessary in Venice! We were only two but they do seem to have a number of other size rooms - singles and family size with four beds. The location is excellent and the easiest way to arrive is from...

It is true that the rooms are 'minimalist' - no TV, radio or other unnecessary fripperies of any kind here! - but they are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We were with a group of friends and were probably, therefore, in the room less than usual - going out at 0930 and often not back before 2330. Breakfast was more...

Booked based on tripadvisor and travelguide reviews and was very happy. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in April 2008. Very clean, recently updated with simple decor. Great location, staff and price. If you are looking for simple, safe and affordable accomodations I would recommend.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
