Spent 2 nights here recently on business, located close to the Ca' Foscari University and Academia bridge area. Very handy for water bus stops. Lovely clean room, sparse, but comfy, good shower, a plug-in mosquito repellent machine was provided, but I didn't really need it during my stay. Good but basic breakfast. Not exactly inexpensive, but nice and just far...

We were able to check in early to a wonderful room with a courtyard view. The setting was serene, the room and public areas were spotless. Located about three minutes from the Zattere vaporetto and water taxi stops, you'd be hard pressed to find a more convenient location. Well situated in Dorsodura, steps away from Gesuati, and a short stroll...

One of my all-time favourite hotels. Situated between Academia and Zattere it is in a perfect location to explore Venice. Beautifully clean, quiet and somewhat spartan (no TV) with large rooms and pleasant bathrooms (poor towels). This is a Christian Foundation and the guests tend to be academics and/or people on conferences with cultural interests, thus there are no rowdy...

This is my second time here in 4 months and I LOVE it. The location is great as it is not a far walk to the Rialto, San Marco and much more, yet it is still in a quiet part of Venice. The staff are lovely and friendly and the rooms are simple and very clean. This property is a...

We had a conference in this centre and I found it an acceptable location. The building is amazing, an old convent refurbished to be confirmed as place of peace in Venice. Prices are affordable but some may not like its religious attitude. The place do have a accept-all policies but crosses are everywhere as well as sculptures of the Virgin...

Stayed here as part of a cultural trip with a group and found the place quiet, convenient and welcoming. It's a no-frills place but by no means austere. The staff were pleasant and friendly and my room was comfortable and very clean as well as spacious and the free wi-fi was a bonus. The bed was a bit hard and...

My husband and I wanted a different experience than staying in a hotel and Don Orione was such a pleasant surprise of a stay for us. This place was the most wonderful, quiet escape you could ask for in busy July! We only stayed for two nights as we had a cruise to catch. One night, we stopped at the...

This was my first time at this hotel and first time in Venice. I spent 2 weeks here. I needed help from the staff from the beginning - left my carry-on bag on the water bus in my excitement to stand up and view the Zattere waterfront on my arrival. The receptionist immediately called the water bus operator and they...

That's my second time on this hotel with my family. It's not a fancy place but service is very professional, rooms are clean, space generous and well cleaned. Close to the most important place in Venice with two vaporeti stations. There is no TV in the rooms, by the way, what is a TV in Venice? But wifi is excellent....

We are staying in a variety of accommodation in Europe and thought we would include a Monastry as something unique to experience. What a gem this is. Perfectly located to two water bus stops, close to Rialto and St Marks Square and steps away from all the action. Built in the 19th centuary, the facade remains, but the interior is...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

“Personally, I would ask for a room that overlooks the bell tower as well as onto the courtyard which is in the center of the hotel.”
