We stayed at the Ponte Chiodo on the recommendation of an old Guardian article about Venice. It's a family run B&B down a small side street in the Cannaregio district of Venice - about 12 minutes walk from the Ca D'Oro waterbus stop. The room and bed was clean, comfortable and tastefully (but minimally) decorated. We tried to get a... More

While the room was small, this pensione was perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood within an easy distance of the must-see sites yet far from the madding tourist crowds. Great restaurants nearby, especially loved Antica Adelaide just down the street. Our host was extremely helpful, loved the cappucino in the morning. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Ponte Chiodo for three nights. Mattia, the owner, greeted us and was terrific throught our stay. When he heard we were planning to see the Venice Biennale, he gave us a guide, which he asked us to return as he'd bought a number for guests. When we told him that I hadn't been pleased with restaurants in... More

Our family of six stayed at Ponte Chiodo in Venice in June 2011. Many of the rooms overlook one of Venice's waterways, and the hotel is within walking distance from many of Venice's famous sites while not being too much in the noisy thick of things. The owner, Mattia, was an absolutely amazing host! He helped us plan our days... More

We ended our honeymoon in Venice and had a wonderful time staying at Ponte Chiodo. Mattia really made the visit special with his personal recommendations on things to see and places to eat. He really goes above and beyond with his guests. All of his recommendations were incredible and we loved eating breakfast in the lovely garden. We'll stay there... More

We only stayed 1 night at Ponte Chiodo guest house.. It is quite easy to get to the guest house from the Venezia Santa Lucia train station.. You just need to take veporato (boat) , follow the guide in the guest house website.. It takes around 15-20 min to reach the guest house. Mr. Mattia who is the owner is... More

We stayed at Ponte Chiodo for three nights and absolutely loved our experience. Our room was large, cheery (overlooking one of the quieter canals), and comfortable. Every morning, as we sat enjoying our continental breakfast outside on the patio, our host, Mattis, would bring his coffee cup and sit down at our table to discuss our plans for the day.... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As our guests write: "A home away from home. Quiet, clean, convenient and very welcoming. Excellent location off the beaten track but still close to everything, located in not touristic and alive Cannaregio's district. If you are looking for lavish 4/5 stars Hotel with huge rooms furnished with fake baroque golden furniture please move on. If you visualize small bridges crossing the little canal outside your window, vine covered walls surrounding a patio and small garden and cappuccino every morning, then this is the place for you! The rooms are cozy and comfortable, their furniture original antique and well refurbished... Remember this is an old, Venetian home. No gyms. No pools. But a nice patio to enjoy breakfast or an evening glass of wine and cheese. You may also have the opportunity to meet some nice people from almost anywhere. The Venetian owner suggests local small restaurants and hidden itineraries through the wonderful unknown Venice". ... more   less
