It took me a while to find as I took a wrong turn, but once there I was made to feel welcome by the owner Mattia. A perfect host who is full of knowledge and recommendations on where to eat & what to see. There's never more than around 6-8 guests staying so it's very quiet with lovely cosy rooms.... More

This wonderful guest house is run by the extremely friendly and knowledgable Mattai who made my sister and I feel completely at home. Our twin-bedded room was small but more than adequate for our brief stay, and it over-looked canals in this out-of-the-way area. Very close to great bars and restaurants for night-life, but easy to walk to all the... More

We stayed at this haven in late September for three nights. The B&B is perfectly situated with easy access to/from the airport via the Alilaguna ferry, and 5 minutes walk to the grand canal, but was quiet and peaceful. Our room was clean and well-appointed with a great view over a canal and bridge. Breakfasts were served in a lovely... More

We had a lovely time here, the rooms are comfortable and clean. The place is tucked away but very close to the grand canal. The owner is very helpful and really takes time to discuss and help you plan your days. Another great thing - there is double glazing, which cuts out most of the noise. (the sound of people... More

The location of the guest house is excellent. In a great neighbourhood with lots of fantastic local restaurants, and only a short walk to the major sights. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful about places to visit and how to get there. The accommodation includes an excellent breakfast and coffee, the garden breakfast area has blankets for when it... More

it's easy to get to from the vaporetto stop. it's near to really good eats and Mattia is fantastic! he will take so much time to be sure that you are able to enjoy your stay in Venice. let's talk about the breakfast...amazing! there is a huge variety of savory versus sweet and the cappuccinos - forget about it! they... Enjoyed our time here. We had room 5 on top floor. Make sure you are able to carry you luggage up narrow stairs. Amazing cappuccino at breakfast. Loved the quiet location. Room was good sized. Shower large enough to accommodate my 6'3 companion (which isn't always the case in Europe). Bring toiletries, they provide some but minimal.

We had a lovely stay at Ponte Chiodo. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and was able to provide us with great insights and advice about how to navigate Venice, which allowed us to make the most of our time without making it stressful. The place is clean, the breakfast is convenient (great espresso!) and the garden space is great. However,... More

We stayed at this lovely place for the first three nights of our month long honeymoon in Italy. What a fabulous place .. The canal view room, overlooking the oldest bridge in Venice, was quaint and clean, the breakfasts in the garden were great, especially the coffee!! We loved the location .. easy walking distance to everywhere but away from... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As our guests write: "A home away from home. Quiet, clean, convenient and very welcoming. Excellent location off the beaten track but still close to everything, located in not touristic and alive Cannaregio's district. If you are looking for lavish 4/5 stars Hotel with huge rooms furnished with fake baroque golden furniture please move on. If you visualize small bridges crossing the little canal outside your window, vine covered walls surrounding a patio and small garden and cappuccino every morning, then this is the place for you! The rooms are cozy and comfortable, their furniture original antique and well refurbished... Remember this is an old, Venetian home. No gyms. No pools. But a nice patio to enjoy breakfast or an evening glass of wine and cheese. You may also have the opportunity to meet some nice people from almost anywhere. The Venetian owner suggests local small restaurants and hidden itineraries through the wonderful unknown Venice". ... more   less
