We stayed in the B&B for 3 days and had booked the “French” room. Already before arriving to the B&B, we had a feeling what the owner was very demanding/unfriendly and difficult to deal with. You have to provide the owner your exact time of arrival to the B&B – we have said between 15 and 17, but it was... More

Seriously, if you're reading negative reviews and think that you won't have problems with Gabriella because usually you don't have problems with people, you're overoptimistic. Yes, location is nice, cleaning ladies and their work were so nice, but seriously, it doesn't worth that. You can find closed door instead of checkin, without any apologies and warnings. You will be treated... More

With a ferry stop around the corner, 10 min walking distance to the Rialto bridge and 15 min walking distance to Venice Central station, the location of this B&B was very good. It´s an ideal location to get away from large tourist crowds and the prices for food and beverages are fairly cheap in this area, e.g. 10-15€ for a... More

Generally this B and B is a good place to stay and is an easy walk from many of Venice's attractions. The room we had was quite small but it was very clean and had much appreciated air conditioning. There were though a couple of things worth mentioning which are not so positive. The included breakfast when we stayed there... More

My husband and I stayed in Ca del Modena 3 nights at the end of September 2010. Despite all the rules and restrictions of Senora Gabriela (the owner) we really enjoyed our stay there. Naturally, we broke some of the rules (we ate in the room, did some washing etc.) but tried not to make it evident. As we are... More

Having read the previous reviews I booked a room for me and my husband (with private bathroom), because hence the bad reviews it seemed like a good value. After confirmation I received an email about asking at what time we estimate our arrival and later they told us that somebody will be there to check us in. The instructions they... More

Seventh visit! Excellent welcome, superb location and beautifully clean b and b. Good value for money and has some very good restaurants nearby. You must try La Zucca. We will be back again. Thank you Gabriella.

My wife and I stayed at Ca' del Modena for 4 nights. We really appreciated the central location near the San Stae vaporetto stop. All of the main sights are within easy reach yet excellent food at reasonable prices can still be found in bars and restaurants in the immediate area. Having read the other reviews but having also enjoyed... More

This is a beautiful house, in a convenient part of town, and for a reasonable price in expensive Venice. I hate to say I wouldn’t go back there, but I can’t blame previous reviews, since they were more than clear. The owner’s insistence to enter the room daily (to make sure we were not contributing any wear and tear in... More

I read the bad reviews on this B&B but booked anyway, and it was a silly mistake. I booked two rooms for two nights. One for my married friends, one room for my mum and I. I joked with my friend when I booked that it was going to be boot camp. I thought I was joking anyway. Within an... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
