Lovely staff, very nice room, all clean, great location at Fondamenta Nova, BUT the air con was ineffective and the heat was unbearable. Didn't sleep a wink. Never have I wanted more to check out of a hotel.

Our room was in the piccolo Vecellio building, about 200 meters away from the main building. The room was clean and spacious. The rococo style of the room might bother some picky persons, but we found it very funny and typical. The breakfast was fine and we found practical that it was available right in the Picollo instead of walking... More

This was a mother-daughter Italian Adventure. The theme of the trip was safety, comfort, and lots of sightseeing. This facility was an excellent choice in accomplishing all of this. The room and the hotel was Charming. And the staff was very helpful and friendly.

Lovely little hotel right by one of the big vapoeretto terminals great location perfect if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle and don't mind a little walk to the main attractions. The staff in the hotel are really friendly and helpful, we stayed in room 5 which was beautiful quite spacious given the size of the... More

Enjoyed our three nights at Hotel Vecellio. The room was clean, comfortable, great location with boat stop directly in front of Hotel. We had a tremendous view of the lagoon and even snow covered mountains in the distant from our room. It was so very charming - just what we wanted in Venice. The front desk was very helpful and... We had a great time at Vecellio in Venice. The man at the desk was helpful and very accommodating. The room was precious and very comfortable. The view of the ocean was gorgeous. And the best of all: the breakfast! We loved this place and the friendly service. Thank you guys!

This small hotel is exactly what I wanted, typically venetian and a fair price. The rooms are not huge but quaint with venetian style furnishings. A private bathroom with toiletries and plenty of hot water. The hotel was very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok, a selection of tea bags and fresh barista coffee. Some fresh... More

The location of this hotel was really perfect for us - it is right on the waterfront and it was lovely to wake up every morning to a view of the lagoon. This also meant it was literally a few steps away from the vaporetto stops, which made it so easy to get the boat to the other islands (like... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
