I booked this hotel because it was on the water (other reviews talked about the breeze) and seemed easier to navigate. Many hotels had reviews showing mold in the rooms, which this had none of. You had to turn in the key each time you leave but a person is at the desk 24 hours a day to give the...

For one of the cheapest hotels in Venice the room was immaculately clean with wonderful solid wood flooring, marble bathroom and crisp white towels and bedding. Great room with helpful and friendly staff, with great continental breakfast. The only downside is a 20 minute walk from the centre of the Island but actually this made for a peaceful and quiet...

Hotel Vecellio was ideal for our three night stay in Venice. It was easily accessible from the hotel and we were greeted with a warm welcome on arrival. It was my birthday when we were there and I was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers at breakfast. The staff couldn't do enough for us and the room we had...

We stayed here for 3 nights in October with our 12 yr old son, our room was no 6 double with a single bed which I think doubled up as an easy chair. The room itself was perfectly functional for us, TV ok but just music channel English. WIFI was easy to use. Bathroom adequate too, extra pillows arrived upon...

A recent long weekend in Venice was made all the better when staying at this budget hotel. Staff were very friendly and even left a surprise bouquet of flowers in our room when they discovered it was my partner's birthday. Located on the northern side of Venice, right on the edge of the lagoon, it is convenient for restaurants, water...

Great location on the water, near big ferry stops, and surrounded by delicious restaurants. Very Venetian decor, super clean rooms, great big bathrooms. The staff was friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious. Espresso/cappuccino machine in the lobby was a lifesaver.

What a great little hotel. Rooms are spotlessly clean & have all the amenities you need for a stay- hairdryer, soaps. We had room 8 which was overlooking the lagoon- this is a must! The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is simple and filling. Can't say enough good things about it. Worth the stay!

This hotel was very nice and it was perfect to be right on the water. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Having a continental breakfast included was very convenient! Only downside, the needing could be upgraded.

This hotel is located on the water front near a water taxi stop.It is also only a twenty minute walk from St Marks square and is near lots of restaurants and bars. The rooms are on the small side but are well equipped. They include anti mosquito protection which you really need in summer in Venice. Our air conditioning worked well. The...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
