I loved the location— in the Castello. Mostly real people walking around. Loved being on other side of Venice from St. Mark's square. And square is just a 15 minute walk away. Great places to eat, fascinating streets. The people at the hotel were very friendly and very helpful. Not fancy but quite nice. Very easy to take the Alleguna...

We weren't expecting much given it's star rating, but could not have been more surprised and relieved when we checked in. Assigned a double room, room 6, which held two kingsized beds, a small table with two chairs, a wardrobe, and two bedside tables. What we weren't expecting was the small bar fridge and the kettle to improve our level...

Have stayed here 3 times and it has been consistently a good B&B. The rooms and baths are large with good linens, the bed is comfortable and it is very clean. Fausto and staff are helpful and pleasant. Breakfast is not huge but gets one started - hot coffee, juice, yogurt, warm rolls and a brioche. Coming from the airport,...

Although the location is itself not scenic, down a lane, the hotel is only a 5 minute walk from a waterbus stop and within easy walking distance of many attractions. The room was clean and comfortable, wi fi worked well and Fausto was very friendly and helpful. The room also had a safe. Excellent value for this city.

It is a mere 10 minute walk to Piazza San Marco which is a great plus. The room itself was very simple, almost sparse, and the breakfast was lacking. After the first morning we chose to have breakfast elsewhere. The cost was excellent so I guess you get what you pay for😉

We stayed a week so we got a free night. Very nice people, clean & comfortable room with minifridge. Our room 7 was very quiet (did not face the street). Located just steps from Ospedale vaporetto stop. About a 15 minute walk from St Marks or Rialto. (We invested in a good map, although there are often signs pointing you...

Stayed in Venice for 3 nights. Hotel is extremely easy to find when visiting Venice for the first time (2 minute walk from the water taxi drop off, you cannot get lost). Welcoming owner and staff. Room is simple and clean with all basics necessary: AC, WiFi, Fridge. Quiet area with no noise day or night. Breakfast was very simple:...

This was a very simple and nice hotel to live in Venice for 3 nights. We asked beforehand to have a room with wifi. But then we arrived at our room and it was poor reception! We ended up sitting in the breakfast/reception room area later in the evenings just to have some decent wifi. We got a room with...

Our stay at Alloggi Barbaria was great. Fousto was a great host and greeted us when we arrived. He gave us many recommendations for dining as well as sightseeing. The room we had was very roomy and comfortable. The beds were comfortable, which was great after our full days of touring around Venice.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
