Two night stay. Basic room with basic facilities. Room size was kind of small, but it was clean. Wi-fi signal was good where we were. Bathroom didn't have exhaust fan. Breakfast was decent but not too much variety. Also breakfast is open only between 8-30 and 10-30. Pleasant staff. No elevator, but Alberto helped us with bags to our first...

I can't say enough about the staff. They were great people very nice every day. Breakfast was what to expect and they got right on it when they ran out of something. We don't speak any Italian but we never got the feeling they didn't like us for that fact. One gentleman didn't speak hardly any English but he smiled...

Could not complain about the location, easy walk from the train station and bus depot. Vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal close by as well as plenty of shops and restaurants. Public laundromat close too. Small hotel..14 rooms, quaint lobby..but room was really small and somewhat dated. Room not as attractive as some pictures we saw online. Owners run the...

This hotel is 5-10 min walk from the train station. Good location! Mr Alberto and his family were very nice and helpful. They gave us free storage (for our luggage) for a few hours after we checked out. Excellent!

We arrived in Venice in the evening and was dropped off from the airport near the train station. It was one of the best decisions to stay there from a budget and logistics point of view. Us 3 girls rolled our carryon luggage 5 minutes to the hotel (a few more minutes to find it as we walked past the...

This family run hotel is very close to the railway station and in Venice it pays not to have to transport luggage a long way. The hotel is situated off a busy street, but down the narrow laneway there is little if any noise. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are dated, but clean. Breakfast is basic, but adequate...cereals,...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
