We had a nice, spacious, double room on the first floor without canal view but we didn't really miss that. Also the bathroom was well equipped and spacious and nicely decorated, just like the room itself, in a traditional style. The bed was pretty comfortable. All the windows could be opened but there was also airco, which was working well and pretty quiet. There was just a small TV, but we didn't use that. We sure did enjoy the coffee and tea facilities in the room.
The hotel does not offer breakfast, but there are several good breakfast cafes in the area. Check-in and -out for the hotel is actually in another hotel along the same canal, closer to the street from/to the train station.
One of the best things about this hotel was the staff, which were all very friendly, professional and helpful. This applies to reception as well as housekeeping. We also much appreciated the early check-in.
We would definitely consider staying here again when next in Venice.

Really nice character to the building, with good decor in the rooms in keeping with the classic style. The chap behind the reception desk was really helpful.
The room was slightly small, but to be expected in an older building. No breakfast on offer, but didn't really concern us.

Ten minutes walking to or from train station, and about 20 minutes to major sights, but we took the vaparetto (water bus) as much as we could. What a wonderful vacation! Owner, Paulo, is as nice as can be, and so is his key employee, Danielle (who speaks English).
Hotel is located on a small canal that runs off the Grand Canal. Vaporetto stop is Guglie. Room was nice with very modern bathroom. Comfortable bed. Local noise (from the boats) at about 7:30 AM, but we did not mind because we are early-risers. One night there was a band playing across the canal at a restaurant, and the music stopped at 11:00. To the extent those are negatives, they are all the negatives we can think of.
In the morning, Paulo set up tables right off the canal, where all guests ate breakfast. Usual assortment comprising a continental breakfast, including cereal, yogurt, cheese, bread, jams, crackers, teas, juice, and delicious coffees. (I got hooked on Apricot juice.) Charming breakfast room inside, but in mid-May, who would want to eat inside? We had perfect weather from May 11-14. We were sorry to leave Venice. When we return, it will be at the CaDagaressa. Room cost (standard)was reasonable ($500) for three nights (that's dollars, not Euros). More expensive rooms available facing the canal.
We ate three dinners at a nearby fish restaurant that was just to the right of the hotel as you faced the hotel. Two minute walk from the hotel. Osteria Vecchia. Excellent fish dishes and pasta. Friendly service by English -speaking servers and English translations on the menu. But we were the only tourists. Everyone there is a resident of Venice. Great mussels. Dinner for two with wine and water was about 30 Euros.
Here's a tip: Instead of going to the Cathedral at St. Marks Square during the day with thousands of tourists being moved quickly through the Cathedral, go at about 6:20 PM for mass. Lovely service, singing, and they light up the frescos. Feel free to leave the service any time.
We did walk, and it was a wonderful city to walk in. Very safe at night. But get 24 hour or 72 hour passes for the vaporetto and use it for wonderful sightseeing. We became addicted to the vaporettos. Get on a crowded boat, and soon you'll be seated, preferably at the front of the boat.
We took a bus from the airport and then bought our first 24 hour vaporetto (water bus) pass. We should have bought the 72 hour pass. I think it was 25 Euros, but we got our money's worth. The 24 hour pass was about 12 Euros each. One water bus ride is 5.50, so the bargain is either the 24-hour or 72-hour pass. The following day, we bought another set of 24-hour passes.
Oh, hotels give a discount for cash, even dollars. Worth bringing cash since new credit card charges are steep for conversions into dollars.
I'd be happy to answer questions. From Venice, we went to Florence and enjoyed another Trip-Advisor recommended hotel, and then we stayed at a rented-apartment in Tuscany and did day trips. Gstern42@aol.com
We stayed in Venice for only 2 days, and hoped to have a nice, romantic room there ....... very disappointed.
