Couldn't find the hotel (this happens every new place you go) but asked for directions nearby and found it straight away. Great location - shops, restaurants and transport links nearby. Breakfast is ideal, basic but all you need - orange juice, tea, coffee, toast, cereal, yoghurt etc. Rooms are clean and I really like the interior decor - suits Venice...

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, the staff is super friendly, it is very close to the train station, and the grand canal, my room had a balcony with a view of a nice garden. Price is decent, service is good. they were very helpful to send me back my passport to Rome when i left it in the...

The location of the Hotel Il Mercante di Venice is excellent, minutes away from the bus station, train station and Grand Canal valporette stop, down a tiny side street just off the lively Rio Terà Lista di Spagna. The rooms were clean and adequate for our stay (take a hairdryer if you've got mid length or longer hair as they...

The rooms are average. Unfortunately we had a room on the first floor so there was a lot of noise. We were only there for one night so we didn't mind so much. Beautiful little patio, great location. A quick walk to the Venezia Santa Lucia railway station.

Fabiola the concierge is amazing, as are the staff!!. This little gem is located right in the heart of the jewish ghetto next to the square and jewish museum. The hotel has a wonderful breakfast, clean rooms, and the desk are only too helpful when it comes to events, attractions and travel. We would stay there again in a heartbeat....

I had the triple room and was delighted about the prices. The breakfast area is a bit small and they don't offer anything traditional, just some slices of cheese/ham plus sweets that you find in a supermarket in your country, but it's good if you don't want to spend a lot on the hotel. And btw the area is perfect,...

We stayed one night before boarding our cruise ship and the location was great for a number of reasons. 1. It is close to the train station. 2. When you get lost in Venice (and you WILL get lost in Venice), you can ask people directions to the train station and inevitably get back to your hotel. It is located...

Dear Gina, Firstly, we would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review. Secondly, we are sorry that that "odd smell" impacted on your stay: some days the tide is very low in Venice and that kind of odour comes from this situation which is unfortunately out of our controll. As for the exit during night-time...

Very close to train station. A little further to the bus station, but still very walkable. A charming hotel on a narrow (maybe two metres wide) street. Easy access to everything in Venice. Prices for rooms are high in Venice. We selected the Mercante di Venezia because of its great location, but also for its more "affordable" price. The staff...

Dear Mike, Delighted to know you had a nice stay with us and that you enjoyed our convenient location, our rooms and our staff. Anyway, we are sorry that breakfast was a bit disappointing. The garden is new for us this year so we are still learning how to improve the service when it's cold outside. Now, in wintertime, we...

Fantastic location in the centre of city and good restaurants especially if you are looking for Halal Food. Close to bus and train station with access to water buses and taxis. Small but clean 3 star accommodation.

Hotel is walkable from station. Staff is very helpful. Free Wi-Fi. Breakfast served is good. Cake was yum. Hotel is in a small street which is diagonal to the main Street. It's so small that I actually missed it for the first time. Room was spacious n clean.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
