A top spot to stay right in the heart of Venice, situated 2 minutes walk from the Rialto bridge this hotel has everything going for it. The rooms are large clean quiet and comfortable, the owner is fantastic supplying maps and fine details on how to find the place to looking up bus and water taxi times to enable a... More

This was my second stay in this little Venice hidden secret place and ever as pleasant as the first one. This small hotel is just steps away from the Rialto bridge which you can reach with the direct boat-line from the airport (or the station). OK there is no lift, so depending how fit you are you simply need to... More

We were very pleased with Lanterna di Marco Polo. Guido and Ricardo went out of their way to meet our needs and were always ready with a smile to answer any questions. We knew ahead of time to ask for a first floor room (which in Europe is what Americans call the second floor). The hotel was very clean and... More

Nice room. Once we found it, it was good location but finding it through the maze known as Venice was not easy. It's poorly marked and even though we used multiple maps plus GPS, we really struggled to find it. Not crazy about having to lug 3 huge keys around. One for the door, one for the front door and... Venice is spectacular and magical. Lanterna di Marco Polo has as it's hosts Guido and Riccardo, two friends who make this place hum. It was easy to find after getting off the Vaporetto a short wal to San Marco and generally centrally located to walk to anywhere you want to. My husband and I are used to old buildings in... More

We visited Venice over the Easter weekend and this hotel was perfect for us. When we booked we received an email from the owner explaining how to get there and asking if there was anything they could do for us which was very reassuring and a lovely touch. We stayed on the fourth floor which wasn't a problem for us.... More

Booked through Expedia and received an immediate response from the hotel. Nice touch. Was able to communicate via email prior to the trip. Again very helpful. The room was comfortable, but small. Bathroom, even smaller. The staff was very helpful and we enjoyed the location and proximity to shops and the Grand Canal.

We took the train into Venice from Roma. We had received email instructions from Riccardo on how to get to the hotel from the water taxi or vaporetto. They are located directly outside of the train station, on the Grand Canal. Followed easy directions and found the hotel. 3 minute walk from the vaporetto stop. The hotel is old and... More

Location is its main gem. It is in the middle of San Marco and Rialto Bridge. The postal office is in front and it was easy for me to locate the place from the Rialto AliLaguna stop. Google street view allows you to simulate the short walk from Rialto. Hotel stairs are narrow and small. So if you have huge... More

Dear Finally came your review. you arrived in Venice tired of two weeks of travel and you were particularly angry with the world. I remember very well that I had personally brought the suitcase in your room as well remember the crying spells of his wife when he learned that there was no ice machine in the floor (!!!!!) as... Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
