Guide runs a great, friendly place. He makes you feel welcome in Venice. He is fair, the rooms are clean, the location is close to all the major things one would like to see/do here. Their is even a high tide key, which isn't something you get everyday!

Hotel, overpriced, no elevator 4/5 flights of stairs to carry luggage. Unsafe no fire escape, exterior door needs a key to get out! Rooms small, dingy, not appealing at all. Hotel is for kids. Left hotel afte one night could not get out fast enough. The hotel owner charge me for 3 nights stayed only one. Stay away

Dear Sir First of all: you have paid for 3 nights because you have booked for 3 nights and you can not obviously cancel 2 nights the day of your arrival. I remind you that this is a building of 1493 and is not necessary to have a particular culture to understand that external safety stairs or elevators can not...

Perfectly located hotel, close to Rialto bridge. It is situated in very old hose. Do not expect wonderful views from the window. Also, it is quite difficult to find, look on the map and ask in cafes around, they will advice you where is located. We stayed several night, everything was great. We did not take a breakfast, so we...

Finding somewhere affordable and central in Venice is not an easy task! Lanterna di Marco Polo offers both in a beautiful and historical building from the 15th century. Located a few minutes walk from either Rialto Bridge or San Marco, you couldn't ask for a better location! Hidden behind an unassuming door, the hotel rooms are up a rather narrow...

We took a private taxi fro the airport to Piazzale Roma and we transferred from there to the Rialto stop. We used Lowcosttaxis for this and while it cost €120 it took a lot of the hassle out of our journey. We used a porter to take us to the hotel which was just as well. While it was only...

My mom and I stay in this beautiful small hotel in Venice. The location is everything, close to Rialto and San Marcos. The rooms are quite small with a Venetian decor but with everything you need. Don't expect a Marriot, this is an old building surrounded by even more old buildings. The best thing about Lanterna di Marco polo is...

This hotel is good value for Venice. The rooms have an old worldly charm to them. They are not super large but for Venice they are ok. The wifi has good reception, there is a fridge but take your own kettle and cups if you like a cup of tea in the morning. The bathroom is clean and not too...

Booked here for two nights in Venice. Location is perfect. Owners, Ricardo and Guido are superb very nice people. Nothing was too much for them. Table light bulb went just after we arrived I mention to Ricardo on our way out to explore when we got back bulb was replaced. Asked if could borrow a kettle no problem instantly received...

It was a last minute booking and we have chosen this hotel because of its location (which is perfect for tourists - right at the Rialdo bridge, less then 10 min walking to San Marco). Our room was tiny and dark, and at the second evening we have found an awful smell in the room and could do nothing as...

I have stayed here twice now. It is a bit dreary and old but one of the most affordable places in the heart of Venice. Near the Rialto and an easy walk to St. Mark's square it is very convenient. Desk staff is nice. A/C helps cool the dark rooms. Can be hard getting luggage up several flights of stairs....

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
