Quite a deluxe hotel. We had a room overlooking a very active canal and St. Mark's Bell tower. It was worth the extra money for the ambience and atmosphere. The room was extremely clean, large and great accommodations.

We had a three night stay at the hotel. We were pleased to be upgraded to a JR suite. We had booked one night on a website and the second night by telephone..They NEVER told us when we checked in that there would be a $100 difference in the price. The manager handeled us in a rude, degrading fashion. He...

We have just returned from Venice, having spent four nights at this hotel. The following is, in our opinion, a list of the pros and cons: Pros: 1. Friendly and helpful staff 2. Very clean and well maintained 3. Good location if you want to be close to St. Mark's square. Cons: 1. The included breakfast was sub-par and the...

Getting to the hotel was a challenge for us but here's the secret. Take the water bus and get off on Rialto Exit. If you don't mind walking and lifting some suitcases over a few stairs you can walk to the hotel. Just go right when you get off the water bus and go in between the second street (near...

We had a JR suite and we had a canal view, which is rare..they don't have a lot of rooms with the view. That being said it was really nice. We kept our windows open and enjoyed the gondolas passing by the window. The complimentary Champagne was nice too. The room ws very nice. We did have one housekeeping issue...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of September 06. The hotel is modern, clean and convenient. The staff was helpful and friendly. A nice breakfast buffet was included. The location was excellent being between the Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square. Worth checking out if you are going to Venice.

Fantastic hotel! It was our first time to Venice and I am a such a fussy English man when it comes to hotel standards! (My wife always waits to unpack until I have given her the go ahead that we are not going to move rooms/hotel!) Hotel location is perfect (St Marks Sq - 5 mins walk) and if you...

We have just returned from a short visit to Venice to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday and I am inspired to make my first post to Trip Advisor. We had a wonderful stay in this wonderful hotel. The great service started from the moment that we 2 very dishevelled travellers walked through the door. Instead of sending us to the...

This hotel is fantastic. Would definitely stay here again Pros: - Fabulous location (in the middle of Rialto bridge and San Marco). 3-4 minutes walk to each, Gelato place steps away and great lunch choices (deli's and not restaurants) just a few steps away) - Great staff. Very polite. Very helpful and accomodating (upgraded us and gave us a free...

We just finished a two night stay in Venice as part of a 9 day tour of Italy. Of all the four star hotels we stayed this one stood out as having the best service. Two good examples. It was rainy during our stay in Venice. We decided to take a mid-day break in our hotel room in the middle...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

“If you have a canal view, understand that you may have "noise" from the singing/accordions on the gondolas. This was charming for us but may be irritating in high season if more frequent.”
