Just spent 2 nights in this beautiful hotel. I went based on Tripadvisor recommendations, and once again I wasn't disapointed. We stayed in a deluxe double room (101) with a view of the grand canal. The hotel is less than 2 years old, built in the palace of an 18th centuy Doge. The room was great as were the public...

I found a wonderful hotel in Rome last year through Trip Advisor reviews (the Ponte Sisto) - and you did it again this week for Venice! We have just celebrated a very special wedding anniversary there, and finding this hotel made it extra-special. As other reviewers have said, the location is superb - on the Grand Canal, far enough away...

I took my wife on a suprise visit to Venice, the culmination of 6 months planning - much of it spent in the Venice forum and Venice hotel guides section of tripadviser[-]! I had selected the Foscari Palace on the basis of the reviews. I wanted a place with a water view, close enough to the sites, but not slap...

This hotel is beautiful! It sits right on the Grand Canal and is close to everything! There is a little water taxi station right next to the hotel and all kinds of great shopping and restaurants. When we first arrived, our room had a wonderful basket full of fresh fruits and little snacks. I think the staff at this hotel...

Read the reviews and was not disapointed. The staff were helpful and friendly. We had a beautiful spacious room looking out onto the street. It was surprisinly quiet for such a central hotel. The bathroom was very well laid out and spacious with bathrooms provided. Breakfast was great, hot and cold food choices. Check out the rooftop terrace for amazing...

We stayed at the Foscari Palace last week to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were delighted with our choice of hotel and that we had booked a canal facing room - there is something magical about the sights and sounds from the balcony. We found the staff to be extremely courteous and efficient, the hotel is clean, fresh and very...

The Foscari Palace is a charming hotel at a superb location for a couple on honeymoon, like we were. The friendly receptionist, Divna, had a surprise for us: we got our room upgraded to a room with a direct view on the Grand Canal. This view exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed to open our (two) windows to watch the early...

We stayed at the Foscari April 8-12 and couldn't have been more pleased--our only disappointmenst were not reserving early enough to get two rooms facing the Grand Canal and the fact that one room was warmer than we would have liked. Our deluxe double room on the Canal was almost palatial and our superior deluxe, facing the S. Sofia plaza...

We stayed at the Foscari Palace over spring break and it was so wonderful. The room is beautifully decorated, fresh fruit upon arrival in room, many ammenities, and the largest bathroom we saw throughout Italy. The shower is incredible. The breakfast was nice. Could improve on the hot items (eggs runny, and bacon/sausage a little fatty, etc.) But that's being...

Very pleasant hotel: stayed in one of the top-range rooms looking on to the Grand Canal...could you beat that in Venice? Nicely furnished room, helpful staff, great bathroom: hardly to be taken for granted in Venice, where hotels can be none too cheap and awful. Excellent location for everything, far enough off the horrors of the worst of the tourist...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
