The Casa is very well located. The reason I say that is because we booked a cruise and it was the nearest hotel to where the ship was docked. However, we had to take a 5-minute walk with our heavy luggage to and from the hotel, as it was not accessible to the rental van we had. There is a... More

We are so glad we stayed at The Casa. It was extremely clean, quiet, has good staffing and good location. We wanted to try a monastery in Venice and picked this because of its closeness to the train station. Not only was it close to the train, but the buses and boats, too. Right around the corner is a great... More

I booked 2 nights B&B from 13 October at Casa Sant'Andrea given its close proximity to the cruise terminal for €215 with payment due directly to the hotel - thankfully! I filed the confirmation until our arrival in Venice and I was horrified to then see that we had been allocated a room with a shared bathroom!!! MY WIFE AND... More

My husband & I have been traveling the Mediterranean for the past 17 days. Stayed in quite a few hotels and all were a great experience except Casa Sant Andrea. The location is great. The hotel is awful. We are very seasoned travelers. The negatives were: 1. Staff sent us to a horrific restaurant for dinner. Worst food of the... More

This hotel has a great location. That's it. No TV in the room no blow dryer , no hot water for a shower . The hotel has paper thin walls you can hear everything. The beds are very poor. The hotel suggested a restaurant for us and that was the worst restaurant of our 17 days on vacation. The free... More

Only stayed one night pre-cruise as near cruise port but excellent location to see Venice. Clean, quiet room, friendly helpful staff. The bathroom is shared but as the other room wasn't occupied this didn't effect me. Breakfast adequate. Great value

Stayed for one night prior to a cruise so location was ideal for us. We asked for a quiet, en suite room which was exactly what we got. Rooms are fine for sleeping, clean and comfortable. No TV. Or Hairdryer but shampoo provided in bathroom. Breakfast was ok, cheese, ham, bread rolls and nice croissants but coffee was awful. Great... More

We stayed here for a week in September. The room we had included a dressing area with 2 wardrobes and a large bathroom. It didn't overlook the canal - in fact our view was next doors roof but we chose this hotel to sleep in only as we wanted to explore Venice. Breakfast was adequate. Coffee machine, croissants, bread, cheese,... More

Very disappointing when it is so expensive. No coffee in room, no tv, motion lights half of which don't work. A nice sitting area on same floor - dark so need lighting. Again only motion lights that go off every couple of seconds. Ridiculous! Go some place else! Have to ask for clean towels. Not worth the money! Pick another... More

Very basic accommodation located in a historic 16C monastery. Excellent location, very clean and safe located near train, bus and canal. Continental bfast included. Close to excellent restaurants. Enjoyed being away from the craziest tourist areas in Venice. Venice accommodation is one of the most expensive in the world hence the room costs here are exceptionally good and should not... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
