The hotel is a short distance from the train station and a great base to explore Venice. The receptionists were first class as was the continental breakfast included in the price of the room. A very well run hotel which provides great value form money. The lighting in our room (no.36) was dim and the dark decor made it quite... More

Hotel staff were very accomodating and well trained. Although this hotel is kinda hidden in an alley, the people there will be able to guide guests there. Breakfast is good. Bed was perfect. Toilets well maintained . We managed to get the ground floor as we were carrying two big bags and they did not have a elevator. No complaints... More

Where do I begin. As stated in other reviews " you get what you pay for". This is a 2 star hotel and that's it. Fairly easy to find; second alley way from the train station. Front lobby was very quaint, but that's where it stops. I was on the third floor in room 37. Double room for single. I... More

We used public transportation on a trip to Italy, and this was an ideal hotel for us. It is on a quiet back street about two blocks from the train station, with a wonderful staff, a great breakfast, and a very clean facility. Our room was small, but then we chose to go on a limited budget. We had everything... More

You get what you pay for as this hotel is nothing flash, however the hotel has someone at the desk 24hr and they were all very nice and friendly. Additionally you get a free continetial breakfast in the morning. The rooms have over the top decor and it does look a little tired and in need of a renovation however... More

We stayed in early October for one night in a superior room, very impressed with the room and the little added touches. We found the superior room very clean and very well presented. Nice touch of a mozzie repellent plug in the room and very nice toilitres. Great bathroom with a powerful shower and powerful hairdryer. Bedroom was very comfy... More

We stayed here for a night post cruise. It is a little hard to find and the first part of the alley you turn into seems a little seedy. It really isn't and a few yards later it became a pleasant walk. Not to hard of a walk to get there from the cruise ship except for one BIG bridge!... More

Once you find this hotel--it's great! Just know that it's pretty close to the train station and you do NOT need a water taxi, but it's not easy to find. We used our Google Maps and Siri finally brought us in after getting bad directions from locals. Cute and really old, which means no lift, so be ready to haul... More

I stayed there for a night. The place was at walking distance from Venice Lucia station and that was the reason for booking. It is little inside of the main Street and you have to google map beforehand. There is no lift so have to carry luggage. The rooms are very small with very old furniture. The bathrooms are very... We stayed one night at the Hotel Villa Rosa. Our room was located on the second floor. The relatively narrow stairways made it challenging to navigate with luggage. The room however was large. The shower was also larger than noted at previous hotels, which was a plus. The area is quiet but close to restaurants and shops. The breakfast was... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
