Had a lovely stay at the Mercurio. It was a bit difficult to get to but managed just fine in the end - water taxi then had to walk a bit. Thank you Venice and no cars. The hotel was very centrally located, so easy to wind in and out of the shops around and be charmed, and a quick...

Good location and great breakfast but a basic hotel. The location is within a 5 minute walk of St. Mark's square. You only have to cross one bridge from the San Marco vaporetto stop to get there, making it easy to get to with luggage. The breakfast is a great spread and the staff is very helpful. There is not...

Just returned from a 4-night stay at this hotel. We stayed in room #25 which had two windows that opened to the canal, with boats and gondolas strolling by quite frequently. We thoroughly enjoyed all the boats and signing each morning and evening! We had no trouble at all reaching the hotel - as long as you take the #1...

I agree with what I have read in other reviews. The hotel was a bit hard to find at first, but that is par for the course in Venice. Its hard to find your way around until you get used to it. Staff was great especially Monica who helped me enormously with train tickets and hotel reservations for our next...

We arrived in venise on the 21st April in the pouring rain, and then discovered we had to pull our cases to the hotel not knowing where to go. Eventually finding it, wet & exhausted we were greeted by an extremely cheerful Monica who sorted everything out for us.We found the staff very accommodating and helpful at all times. The hotel...

I used Trip Advisor to pick my hotel for my stay in Venice. We are quite a young couple and one particular member of staff was quite rude to us, as i dont think he particularly trusted us. But apart from that the rest of the hotel was really good. Good spacious room, ours overlooked the canal which was really...

This was an absolutely perfect location for Venice being so close to St. Marks square. The value was great for Venice. The room was just as I expected- clean, small and had a small bath. It had shuttered windows that looked out onto a quiet street. We were on the top floor (3rd) and there is no lift. The breakfast...

Great Small Hotel. Great Location. Very Helpful Staff. There are stairs so be ready to carry your bags! There was some construction going on outside, but that seemed to be the theme in all of Venice.

We stayed here for two nights during the Carnival season Room rates were excellent and upon arrival we were upgraded to the apartment for no extra charge. Room is dated and a little tatty in places but is very clean and comfy. We flew into Marco Polo then got the land bus and then walked from the drop off. It...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
