When booking this hotel I used trip advisor for the first time to help make my choice. I was slightly concerned about a couple of negative reviews and also the fact that it was not in the top ranked hotels............... I am so glad that I ignored a couple of either unfortunate or plain grumpy people beccause this hotel did...

The hotel is in an excellent location - only about 3 minutes from the vaporesso. Close to San Marco Plaza and other areas. We were shocked upon our arrival that there was no elevator. If you stay here, do not stay in the upper floors - they were HOT and we were told that was the coldest air we would...

Our stay in the Hotel Mercurio was disappointing - it's not awful, it's just so ordinary and I think there are so many nicer options to stay for around the same money. From reading other reviews, it obviously depends a lot on the room you get - in our case the room had no canal view, was very basic, and...

We chose this hotel because a friend of a friend strongly recommended we stay here. Since we were planning to stay over the weekend, it was pretty expensive for a Suite that would accomodate 4 people--about 560 euros for two nights, which translated to approximately $700. We still decided to stay here after the recommendation and reading great reviews on...

We only had 1.,5 days to spend in Venice so we picked Hotel Mercurio. It was an excellent choice, we had a wonderful stay. We were able to get the apartment next to the hotel, which had three tiny balconies overlooking the canal. I will attach pictures! The hotel was easy to find and reach via the vaporetto 1 from...

Lets begin with the good points about the hotel (because there is a much bigger list of bad ones!): 1. Excellent location - close to St. Marks square, and walkable from Rialto bridge. But Venice is a smallish place and I would rather stay somewhere else in Venice than pay so much just for this location. 2. Natale, the old,...

Hotel Mercurio is perfectly located, a short walk from St. Mark's Square. The rooms, although tiny, are very clean & appeared to be recently modernized & refurbished. It can be a long climb up the stairs, but hey, you need to get your exercise while you're in Venice....& if not, the extremely friendly & helpful reception staff will cheerfully help...

We found this hotel through trip advisor and can confirm it is everything we had hoped for. It is definitely a no frills hotel but it is clean and in a perfect location for St Mark's Square. We could easily walk to all the best known sites and the canal view from the superior double was well worth the extra...

Fabulous! We stayed in Suite 53 which is HUGE, spotlessly clean & a fabulous view of the canal. There are 4 windows in the room including 2 with small balconies where you can watch the gondolas go by (get ready for plenty of waving tho as everyone waves as they sail past!) 120 Euro's a night...What a bargain! I wouldn't...

The hotel map is clear/precise and we have no difficulty locating the hotel after leaving the ferry stop. It took us around 5 mins walk to the hotel. Upon reaching, their staff, Monica greeted us warmly and brought us to Suite 53 which I have booked from her 2 months in advance. This suite is really fabulous and huge! We...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
