Lovely hotel on a small back canal. Very quiet and beautiful rooms. A few minutes walk to San Marco square in a great location. The breakfast was in a lovely room and very yummy, the kids liked the automatic pancake maker. The staff were helpful as we needed babysitters at short notice. Our air conditioner was a tiny bit noisy...

We booked this hotel for 2 nights before joining a cruise. An opulent lobby. Staff were nice and helpful. I would book a superior room. We had one of each and there is a huge jump in comfort and decor to the superior rooms. I absolutely love Venice. This hotel feels like your very own hideaway. There is a little...

Hotel clean and tidy, staff helpful, lovely room, great breakfast. What more could you ask? Just returned from a few nights stay. Good location but just a bit fiddly to find, probably similar to most places in the back streets of Venice.

We loved this hotel. The rooms we got were cozy. It has a tiny elevator but we mostly took the stairs. The breakfast was amazing. Stayed 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. The staff were all great too. We loved that our street was not a high trafficked area so it was quiet but still had a small canal entrance....

Hotel is for 3 minutes by foot from St.Marco square in very silent place. To go in, you need to cross the channel by little bridge just to the enter of the hotel. Interior is in some centuries ago of Venice. Everything is very ancient & nice. In dinning room you can seet near the window and look at gondols...

The reception staff didn't seem interested in helping answer our questions (perhaps that was because we weren't staying in one of the more expensive rooms). The location of the hotel, however, was fantastic! 5 min walk to St Mark's Bascilica. The bathroom was lovely - newly renovated. But, the shower was tiny like the room. My husband had to enter...

This is a very romantic hotel ( the building dates back to the early renaissance) with lovely architecture and ancient marble columns. It is surrounded by a canal, and it lies in a very calm and unspoiled typical venetian neighbourhood. Inside we discovered furnitures and upholsteries in the typical romantic venetian style, very well kept and above all very clean. Bathroom...

We had stayed here for a number of times, last in 2014. In december 2016 we returned to find the hotel as friendly and accomodating as ever. Very nice rooms and a good breakfast which also includes scrambled eggs now (in previous years this was charged extra). The hotel is very pleasant and we were even recognized as "regulars". We...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
