We enjoyed the location near San Marco Place where the heart of the city is... The hotel is clean and the staff very nice, caring about you and available.
The room (standard) is quite small, old fashioned and lack acoustic insulation with the neighbors and the corridor... but, as said, clean including bathroom which is mandatory for us. The price was adapted with an offer including breakfast, so we rate it average not to penalize but nothing outstanding.

What a great hotel. Very easy to find as only a few minutes walk from St Marks square.
The location is excellent
Lots of cafes and restaurants within a few minutes walk and Hard Rock Cafe is directly opposite!

We had a 1st floor room overlooking the Gondolas which was great to watch
Rooms seemed small but perfectly adequate and they were cleaned everyday
Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful
No toaster at the breakfast buffet but plenty of other options to choose from and the coffee was delicious
The hotel offer a private taxi service to the airport at 160 euros but we used the ‘public’ service for 15 euros per person

Definitely recommend this hotel

Returning to the Cavalletto for the first time since Covid struck in 2020 was like returning home. Friendly and professional staff who go out of their way to look after guests all day and evening. The hotel represents great value for money: the location just off St Mark's Square is superb for tourists visiting for the first time, or repeat visitors like us. Rooms are variable: if you want grandeur, tradition and to overlook the basin you pay extra. The updated rooms in the annex are probably the best compromise for money and comfort and, let's face it, you're going to see a lot of canals in Venice. Good buffet breakfast, lovely bar for a nightcap and did I mention the location? Thank you for another great stay: see you again!

Stayed 4 nights in October 2021
Location is excellent and close to all major tourist attractions .
Its a large hotel and houses probably more than 300 guests.
This is not a 4 start hotel like most booking websites suggests, more like 2 star.

Good luck trying to get breakfast. They are short staffed and lack enough tables to feed all the guests . Unless you there at 07h30 forget about it . From 08h00 to 09h30 there are ques of upset tourists waiting to be seated. Not to mention those already seated waiting up to 45 minutes just for a coffee.
The food is very mediocre and borderline budget grade.
Its not worth it, leave the breakfast and go eat elsewhere . For the cost of the hotel, you can't expect alot, and breakfast elsewhere is not that expensive.

The rooms are decent size, even though they are a bit dated. It is clean and maintained during your stay . Unfortunately they lack blackout curtains, its just a light semi transparent screen, so expect some streaming morning sunlight in your room at 07h00.

The walls and doors lack any acoustic performance , so be prepared to hear your neighbour and your neighbours to hear you . and if you not far from a staircase , you will hear footsteps and doors closing throughout the night.

Staff are friendly and helpful.

I would recommend paying an extra £ 50 a night a go to a better hotel . There are so many others also in the same location , this was even at their cheap rates are just not worth it.

The hotel is located in a fantastic place don’t get me wrong! However I paid for a better room in which it said “canal view if available”, and I emailed the staff prior to let them know that it was our honeymoon and if they could possibly make sure we got a room with a canal view, in which they responded that it was be an extra 30 euros a night to secure one. This was fine I understood, I declined anyway and decided to take my chances. Once we got to the hotel I asked if our room would be a canal view and he said no to which he replied that he emailed me about Paying an extra 30 euros a night for one of those rooms- and if I wanted to pay it now. WHY WOULD I?! I already had paid for a canal view “if available” which WAS available but they didn’t give to me out of spite. The room was old fashioned and smelled really bad. The breakfast on Valentine’s Day ran out. The staff didn’t even say bye on our last day or asked how our stay was. Would definitely not recommend. Oh, also they didn’t care at all that it was our honeymoon.

The hotel is perfectly located just a couple of steps from St Marks Square. We thought that the price paid represented excellent value for money in a city which is very expensive. The hotel was old fashioned but charming, pretty and clean. The staff were helpful and spoke good English. Breakfast was very nice with lovely hot eggs and bacon plus a selection of cold items (we often find the breakfast at cheaper hotels inedible but this was good) the only negative was there was no breakfast tea (essential for us Brits).
Tip 1: Be sure to wear mosquito repellent during the evening and at night in bed (if you are susceptible to getting bitten as I am) as the hotel is on the water or else you will be eaten alive.
Tip 2: the hotel provides an iron and ironing board for guest use on the first floor by the lifts (no-one tells you about it, we found it by chance).
Tip 3: There is a small supermarket a couple of streets away (5 mins walk max) that is handy for drinks and snacks.
Tip 4: A 30 min trip on the gondola directly from the hotel was 80 euros.
Tip 5: There is no water taxi access directly to the hotel (gondolas only) instead you will need to get on/off at St Marks Square but this is a easy 2 min walk and we found the hotel easy to find upon arrival (look for the walkway from the square with a large telephone sign, the hotel is then just a few steps away over a small bridge).

I must state from the offset that we only experienced one room in this hotel, so can’t confidently generalise across the whole place. It might be that we just got lucky, since they knew it was our honeymoon, so gave us the best room available? I certainly hope not though, because the horrors we were met with at the Hotel Cavaletto were nothing short of disgraceful, and certainly not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel.

Without having terribly high standards, all I would ask for would be cleanliness, comfort and some reasonably aesthetic decor. Sadly, none of these aspects were present here.

We did receive a very warm “military” welcome, as upon checking into our room, there was an army of ants (formica) waiting there to greet us. The hotel’s solution- move us immediately? Apologise? Perhaps a free drink by way of appeasement? Nope- sent up a can of Raid bug spray- excellent.

I won’t go into the other grim details of the room, as the photos all do a pretty good job of bringing to life the misery there, but it’s fair to say that a lick of paint and a little bit of due care and attention wouldn’t have gone amiss.

Then there’s the embarrassment that was “breakfast”. I didn’t for a moment expect a full fried breakfast with extra beans and black pudding…however I don’t think it was unreasonable to be disappointed by the absence of a piece of bread to toast, I mean, what else was I meant to put my cremated bacon and bright yellow scrambled eggs on? Actually, I’m not 100% sure that these were eggs, the texture would definitely suggest otherwise and looked like something that had just been dredged up out of the canal…they tasted worse.

Speaking of the canal brings me on to the final and perhaps (although it’s difficult to choose a winner) the worst thing about the hotel. Not the view, which in fairness, was pretty nice, but the absolute apocalypse of a bed that we slept/tried to sleep in. Why the canal? Well…I’d have genuinely been more comfortable kipping on a gondola.

As mentioned, the trip was part of our honeymoon, we booked well in advance, so to put us in a room with two single beds pushed together was pretty poor to begin with, unless of course they don’t have any doubles in the whole place? The mattresses were about as lumpy as the eggs and though it was our honeymoon, the main thing that ended up being stiff was my back and shoulders, after 3 nights of torture on my single block of misery. The hole in the middle of the 2 beds wasn’t the one I wanted to be going down on this trip.

Humour aside, the only positive that comes to mind is that the hotel is in a fantastic location for the Basilica, Bell Tower and San Marco Square. There are so many other options that are equally good location though, so my advice would be to avoid this hotel like the plague if you were thinking of booking, or use free cancellation and book elsewhere if you’ve already reserved. Venice is a fantastic city and despite the desperately poor hotel, we still had an amazing time. Just wanted to save other travellers from the horror show that is the Cavaletto Hotel.

Lovely hotel in convenient location. All staff exceptionally nice (thank you, Nicolo!). Located just behind San Marcos Plaza on a canal across from Zara where there is a major gondola embarcation stop. We chose the upgrade to a room with a balcony on the 4th floor and each morning, we watched the boys wipe down and polish the 25 or so gondolas that had parked overnight below us. The hotel breakfast buffet was fine and the staff for breakfast were very friendly. The rooms are not large but are very clean, comfortable and charmingly furnished. Nice big shower with great water pressure! You do feel that you are truly in Venice at the Cavalletto.

This hotel was in a great location off San Marcos Square with the Gondolas outside the hotel .
The front desk staff was very professional and helped us check in and arranged a water taxi to the airport .
Upon checking in please check out your room first because some are better than others .
We had to change rooms upon check to get a descent room.
Good AC and bathroom was small but adequate.
Not enough plugs for charging tiny tv and also Canal rooms are noisy.
Overall this hotel needs updating but the breakfast was adequate .
The staff made our visit to Venice great .

We stayed here for a two night stay while on our honeymoon. It is right next to st marks square - I could see it from our window! The lobby area is nice and the staff took great care of us during our stay. Breakfast is complimentary and the seating areas have a great view of the canal and gondolas. Overall perfect location, especially for a short visit. We chose to take the water taxi to the airport and it was only about a five minute walk from the hotel to the water taxi stop. You can also have a private water taxi pick you up or drop you off directly at the hotel canal entrance if you want to spend the extra money for the convenience. The bed was not super comfortable but other than that it was perfect! Thank you for a wonderful stay in Venezia!

The rooms are not very big but are OK. Remember is Venice. The bathrooms are quite good. The furniture are a bit used but you aren’t going to buy them. Room 304 or 404, if you have the chance to ask for them. Have a nice stay and take care of the viruses.
