We took the least expensive option - a room annex and we didn't regret it. We payed 117 eur for three nights and even though a room was a bit cold and damp, we had a great hot shower and nice interior when we got there first all wet after 1 hour of searching in the rain. Also, staff working...

Good balance between price and quality. Situated near Arsenal vaporetto station (although a little bit hard to find it ; for us took 15 min of walking around same circle to find that norrow hotel street) is a 3 floor building. Our accommodation was the room from the last floor with a huge terrace but unfortunately no view. The room...

We stayed here a couple of nights prior to a cruise so we could explore the city. The hotel was located down a back street, but being armed with several printed maps made it easy enough for us to find. Check in was via intercom, not in person! No problems though. Room was on 1st floor and was comfortable, with...

A short walk through atmospheric streets, a charming small hotel. We arrived late but a remote control let us into reception and a welcome letter plus our room key. Room furnished in Italian style (VERY elaborate lampshades!!) Modern bathroom. Breakfast basic but gooed with excellent coffee. Our hosts were delightfully warm and helpful.

We had trouble finding the hotel and upon arrival there was no one there - we tried buzzing but no answer. There was a number on the door which we tried - voicemail. The last number we tried we had luck: they buzzed us in and we found a note with our key. We found that we were not even...

I stayed at Locanda Cà Valeri 5 years ago when in Venice for the first time with my family. It was a wonderful stay. I remembered it when I was planning a trip to Venice this summer. My second stay was just as wonderful. It is located near piazza san marco, the waterfront and the waterbus station San Zaccaria. It...

This is a cute place! Obviously not high end, but great for the price. The owners don't speak much English, but they were very friendly and helpful in giving us a map and boat schedule to get to the airport. Close to lots of shops and restaurants, too!

I can see that not everyone likes this Hotel by looking at the reviews. It most certainly depends on what sort of Trip you are planning. Myself and my partner spent most of our time out and about and were guilty of coming in late and going straight to bed. We most certainly did not plan to spend much time...

Hotel Cà Valleri is situated in the Castelo area of Venice. It is on the opposite side of the city from the train and bus stations. One either walks to there which we did or takes the water-bus to stop Arsenale. It is in a very small alley off the “main” street, just behind a restaurant. From outside it looks...

The hotel is very well located and the price is reasonable considering what you get. Our experience wasn't great though. First, we didn't get the room we reserved because some heating problems. However, we were compensated with a bottle of frizzante. The main issue was that we didn't get hot water for the shower... They said it should work and...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
