My 12 year old daughter and I recently spent 3 nights at the Hotel Al Vagon and loved the place! Our room was number 2 which has a balcony overlooking a canal. Fantastic view and really felt like we were in the center of everything! Gondola's pass by, people walking over the bridge, we loved having our balcony and window...

Great location Just 3 minutes from Rialto bridge. Clean room. Air conditioning was perfect. The area has a buzz. Friendly staff. Would love to come back. Easy access to shops, Strada Nova, restaurants, Water Taxi. The other areas such as San Marco and San Polo are only 15 to 20 minutes away if you like walking.

Good location; not far from Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge is only a few minutes away. Gondola and water taxi arrive and depart from steps leading up to the rooms. The rooms are spotlessly clean with excellent air con and wi-fi. Only thing is the bells start going off at 7am and then on the hour after that, on...

We had an average room during our stay, it had what we needed but nothing 'wow'. Our window looked out over a dumpster area, and the bed overlay smelt old. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were only a few minute walk from the Rialto Bridge and St Marks square. Was overall an 'ok' hotel.

Well priced no frills hotel. We booked a canal view room- room 4. Lovely windows and typical old style Venetian hotel room touches- chandelier and sconce lighting, pelmet curtains. It was located above the charming little canal-side restaurant below. Just enough room to add a 2nd rollaway to accommodate a family of 4. The wifi is great, the small bathroom...

This little hotel is quite basic with a small room but it serves it's purpose well! It's in a great location and is only a 5 minute walk from the Rialto Bridge. There are lots of restaurants and quirky shops by the hotel too and a mini supermarket is less than 5 minutes away if you need to pick up...

We traveled as a couple and booked for 3 nights. Our room was very small and we had no view at all (the windows were there for ventilation only - all we could see was a very small alley). The room was very clean and quiet though, and the beds were good. So, that's all you need in Venice -...

We loved the location, the authentic Venetian style of the room and how easy it was to check in and out. The hotel does not provide meals but that is absolutely fine as we wanted to experience as much of Venice as possible including eating out for every mealtime. Would definitely stay here again!

A lovely hotel in a fantastic central location. Close to all shops, restaurants etc and within walking distance to main attractions. Had a large room overlooking canal - a little noisy first thing in the morning with canal traffic but all part of the fun. Would certainly return again.

This location made getting around Venice rather easily accessible. The price was pretty good, granted Venice is not a cheap city to stay in. For a one star hotel it was really nice. We stayed in a building across from the hotel itself. The gentlemen at the front desk were very friendly and they have luggage storage. They were nice...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
